Moon Township, Pa. – Andrew McMinn, 10th-year head coach of the RMU men's lacrosse program, will coach at the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Senior All-Star Game presented by Dynamic on Friday evening. McMinn will lead the South team, with assistant coaches Sean Doyle and Brandon Mangan serving on his All-Star staff in the same positions.
McMinn is coming off his 15th season overall at RMU, having spent the first five of those as an assistant coach and briefly as the associate head coach from 2006-11. The Pittsburgh, Pa. native is the program's all-time wins leader with 76 to his name, and has guided the Colonials to a pair of Northeast Conference (NEC) Tournament titles and subsequent NCAA Tournament berths. He also led RMU to the 2012 NEC regular-season championship, and is a two-time NEC Coach of the Year (2012, 2017).
In one of the most challenging seasons in program history, RMU posted its fifth consecutive winning record at 7-6. Facing a daunting independent schedule with 11 of 13 games away from Moon Township, the Colonials were victorious in all four of their matchups against future ASUN Conference foes (Air Force, Bellarmine, Cleveland State, Utah), and all six of their defeats came to NCAA Tournament teams, including a quartet of nationally-ranked Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) schools in Duke, Notre Dame, Syracuse, and Virginia. The Colonials fell by a combined six goals to the Blue Devils (16-12) and Cavaliers (14-12), who are two of the remaining four teams in the NCAA championships.
Alongside McMinn on his All-Star staff will be his two assistants, Sean Doyle and Brandon Mangan. Both Doyle and Mangan aren't new to the USILA North/South All-Star Game however, as the two played in it following their senior seasons. Mangan scored twice in the 2014 edition after an impressive career at Yale, while Doyle played for McMinn in the 2018 version.
RMU has provided a regular player presence in the All-Star Game as well, with a total of 10 former Colonials playing in the contest: Casey Abbott (2012), Kyle Buchanan (2012), Sean Doyle (2018), Mike Eveland (2019) Luke Laszkiewicz (2016), Kiel Matisz (2012), Eric Rankel (2016), Jacob Ruest (2015), Jack Toomb (2019), and Andrew Watt (2008).
The 2021 USILA Senior All-Star Game is set for Friday, May 28 with a Division III contest beginning at 4:00 p.m., followed by a 6:30 p.m. start for the Division I/II game. Both contests will take place at the Roger Williams University in Bristol, R.I. and admission is free. The game will be streamed live on Boxcast.
