Colonials Fall In Season Opener

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Robert Morris University men's soccer team dropped its season opener against West Virginia Thursday afternoon at the North Athletic Complex, 2-0.

The loss drops RMU to 0-1 on the season.

The Mountaineers wasted no time getting on the score sheet Thursday afternoon, breaking the stalemate in just the 2' when WVU's Dyon Dromers got loose in the box and headed home a well-placed volley into the Colonials net for an early lead.

Dromers tested RMU keeper Mike Zolnierczyk with another firm strike just minutes later, however the junior was in a good position to make the save.

The Colonials kept pressing for an equalizer as the game drew into the second half, just narrowly mis-connecting on a number of close calls.

Nathaniel David earned a good look just outside the six yard box, however pressure from the WVU back line forced him to push the shot foul.

Another close call on a service into the box on a free kick bounced out of the box before a Colonial could connect for a scoring chance.

WVU pushed it to 2-0 in the 79' to lock up the win and hand the Colonials their first loss of the year.

QUOTABLES

"Lots of good firsts today for us. Obviously WVU is a very good team that's very well coached, which is why we wanted to play them. We want to see what it's like to play those great teams so we can push ourselves to try and get ourselves up to that level. It's a process, but we're going to learn something and grow from each game." – Head Coach Jason O'Keefe
