Beacons Top Colonials Sunday At NAC

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Robert Morris University women's soccer team dropped a Sunday afternoon matchup with the visiting Valparaiso Beacons by a final score of 2-1. The loss moves them to 1-3 on the season.

Haleigh Finale scored her team-leading second goal of the season for the Colonials in the loss.

The Colonials misfired on a number of close chances in the first, just narrowly missing on several quality looks.

Emily Rocco's service into the box from the right wing found Finale waiting for her first great chance of the day, however the sophomore pushed her turning effort over the bar.

Finale nearly struck again minutes later, however some nice pressure from the ValPo backline forced the effort off target.

A few timely stops from Courtney Worstell including two on corners in the waning minutes of the first half helped keep things scoreless after one.

Finale finally hit pay dirt in the second, collecting a great feed up the middle of the field from Kaoru Hayashi before splitting two defenders in the box and firing a well-placed strike inside the near post to put RMU up 1-0 in the 50'.

The lead would be short lived, however as the Beacons leveled in the 60' before finding the back of the net again in the 74' to go up 2-1 with 15 minutes left to play.

A final push from RMU failed to materialize an equalizer as the Beacons held on to hand the Colonials the loss.
