LORETTO, Pa. The Robert Morris University women's soccer team dropped a Thursday afternoon showdown with the Saint Francis Red Flash at the Stokes Soccer Complex, 3-1.
Chelsea Kingston recorded her first goal of the season as RMU moves to 1-4 overall on the year.
Another early goal conceded spelled problems once again for Robert Morris Thursday in Loretto.
The Red Flash managed to break the stalemate just seven minutes off the opening kick when Rita Kendziora broke in loose on Courtney Worstell and managed to slip a ball behind the graduate keeper for a 1-0 SFU lead.
Following the quick goal, the game settled in to more of a defensive rhythm as both sides vied for control of the middle third of the field.
Sheridan Reid saw one of her efforts blocked, while another sailed wide of the net as time expired on a scoreless first half of action for the Colonials.
Haleigh Finale nearly leveled things minutes into the second half, however her shot following a great run into the middle of the box was saved by SFU's Sarah McConnon.
RMU nearly broke through again in the 61' when a long ball found Kayla Veloso-Lima in stride, however she pushed her effort just wide of the far post.
More pressure eventually paid off for RMU in the 68' when Chelsea Kingston finally was able to make it 1-1 off of a looping header in the box following a nice ball from Finale.
A great defensive play on the other end from Allie Ball immediately following the Kingston goal helped RMU maintain its lead, however SFU soon managed to go up 2-1 after pouncing on a loose ball near the far post off a corner kick.
Lauren Pyle tacked on a third SFU goal in the 84' to put the game out of hand for RMU.
