WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Two goals from Kayla Veloso-Lima helped the Robert Morris University women's soccer team win its third straight game Sunday afternoon against Hampton, taking down the Pirates 4-2 at Wanner Stadium.
Haleigh Finale recorded three assists in the win as well, while Kassidy Fischer scored her first career NCAA tally as the Colonials improve to 4-4 on the season.
The Colonials picked up right where they left off after Friday's win over Delaware State, peppering Hampton keeper Sydney Johnson with chances as they settled into their attacking rhythm.
Fischer tested Johnson right off the hop, firing a pair of strikes at the goal before Kaoru Hayashi came up with a chance of her own, however both failed to crack the keeper.
More good looks including a pair from Finale and Veloso-Lima kept the pressure up as the Colonials chipped away at the Pirate back line, finally breaking the game wide open with two goals in less than three minutes
Finale feathered two assists to Fischer and Veloso-Lima in the span of 2:38, helping RMU storm out to a 2-0 lead including Fischer's first career NCAA tally as RMU's quick-strike capability was on full display.
Spurred on by the two goal cushion, RMU let loose with a volley of shots to close out the half with an 11-1 advantage in total chances, including a 9-1 edge in shots on goal.
Though Hampton managed to cut the lead to 2-1 in the 48', another quick response from the Colonials restored the two-goal lead less than ten minutes later when Emily Rocco picked up her second of the year following a nice feed from Finale for her third helper of the day.
A second Pirates goal from Sayvon Hammond in the 69' kept it interesting until Veloso-Lima wrapped up her superb performance with a goal of her own in the 74' for a 4-2 win.
