MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. - The Robert Morris University men's soccer team dropped an afternoon matchup with the Xavier Musketeers 1-0 at the North Athletic Complex Wednesday, dropping their record to 1-4 on the season.
Jacob Haskins led RMU with one shot on the afternoon.
The first half of play featured lots of action in the middle third of the field as both squads tried to break down the other's structure in pursuit of the opening goal.Â
The Colonials were forced to defend a number of set pieces, including a pair of dangerous looking corners over the final 15 minutes of first half action, however some nice marking and aggressive defending from Nathaniel David and Kelvin Ramirez helped RMU clear the danger without giving up the opening tally.Â
Two corners for the Colonials at the other end provided their best looks of the first as well, however RMU failed to convert either set piece as both squads went into the locker rooms after one half of action.
Both teams continued to probe through the midfield as the second dragged on, however neither side was able to set up and maintain consistent attacking pressure.
Haskins earned a dangerous look for the Colonials in the 79', however the freshmen fired his turning shot high of the goal.
Xavier managed to grab the lead late, converting on a corner in the 88' when Justus Kauppinen's service sailed into the box and went in, giving XU the victory.

QUOTABLES
"Xavier has done this a couple of times. They're very experienced and we're not yet, and that's really what it comes down to, knowing how to manage moments. We did last Saturday but were not successful today, hopefully we do it again on Saturday." - Head Coach Jason O'Keefe
