SOUTHPOINTE, Pa. - Goals from Gabriella Lecuona and Sheridan Reid helped propel the Robert Morris University women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Canisius Sunday afternoon at SouthPointe Fieldhouse.
Freshman goalkeeper Isabella Bohlen also recorded her first career clean sheet as RMU improves to 2-4 on the season.
The Colonials enjoyed the majority of possession in the opening half, putting together a number of extended sequences in the attacking third of the field.
Reid lashed her effort from just outside the box high and wide after a Canisius defender just barely managed to get a foot on the effort. Haleigh Finale almost broke through minutes later, however her shot struck the cross bar.
Ally Krieger earned another close call with time winding down in the opening half, pushing her shot high after taking a ball from just near the penalty spot in the box.
A diving stop from Bohlen on a shot from Canisius's Tiani Fonoti helped keep the score 0-0 after one half.
The Colonials continued to control the pace of the game in the second, out-shooting CC 15-8 and peppering the Griffins keeper with chances until Lecuona finally hit pay dirt in the 70'.
After collecting an effort from Haleigh Finale coming down the wing, the junior broke into the box alone before rocketing a powerful strike across the box and into the upper left corner to put RMU up 1-0 in style.
Following another good look from Finale that was saved away, the sophomore picked up her second assist of the afternoon, feeding Reid in the box who ripped a hard, low strike under keeper Jordan Spencer to double the Colonial lead to 2-0.
Despite a hard push from the Griffins in the game's final minutes, Bohlen held strong between the posts to secure the clean sheet and the win for RMU.

QUOTABLES
"Our possession this game was amazing, crazy good. We passed it well all game, and we knew our chances were coming. I didn't think I was gonna be the one to get it, but I was more than thrilled." - junior Gabriella Lecuona
"Today I thought we did a great job of not creating issues for ourselves, not creating our own problems defensively, and then at the other end, probably one of the best finishes I've seen since I've been at RMU from Gabby. Then you have Sheridan who played fantastic today and got rewarded with a goal too, so to see her get rewarded was very deserved." - head Coach Chris Shaw
