Colonials Force Overtime Late Against Mastodons

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Robert Morris University women's soccer team scored twice in the final eight minutes of action Thursday afternoon to erase a 2-0 deficit and force overtime against Purdue Fort Wayne before eventually losing in the extra period, 3-2.

Haleigh Finale and Chelsea Kingston each scored as RMU fell to 4-6-1 on the year.

PFW kicked things off with a pair of chances, testing Courtney Worstell twice off a pair of quick shots from Kelsey Gallagher that the keeper managed to snuff out.

Kayla Veloso-Lima responded with a big boot from the corner of the box that was also saved, however the Mastodons soon found themselves up 1-0 after Bella Reitano headed home a service from Gallagher off a corner to put RMU in the hole in the 16'.

Chances from Haleigh Finale and Chelsea Kingston failed to find their mark as RMU found themselves down 1-0 after one half of play.

PFW tacked on a second goal in the 50' as Reitano and Gallagher connected again on an almost identical set-piece goal to make it 2-0 Mastodons.

Undeterred, RMU continued to fight and fire chances at the PFW net in search of the opener.

Haleigh Finale gave the Colonials life late when her shot trickled inside the far post in the 83' cutting the PFW lead in half before Van Damia brought RMU all the way back, finishing off a service into the box with a short-range strike to knot things at 2-2 and send the game to overtime.

The Mastodons worked quickly in the extra period, however, ending the game in the 94' courtesy of Reitano's second goal of the game.

QUOTABLES

"I thought the players did well to come back from two-nil down, they showed a lot of fight and heart, but we're obviously pretty disappointed to give it away like that in OT. We just have to keep plugging away, keep working and getting better." - Head Coach Chris Shaw
