Moon Township, Pa. – The RMU track & field team opened the first of two days in the YSU Mid-Major Invitational Friday at the Watson and Tressel Training Site in Youngstown, Ohio.

In the opening day of competition, graduate student
Keturah Hunter continued her run at the top of another event list in the weight throw. At the YSU Mid-Major Invitational Friday, Hunter posted a heave of 18.40 meters (60'4.5") to claim gold. It marks her third individual championship in four meets during the 2021-22 season in the event. The Horizon League leader in the weight throw, ranking second is fellow grad student
Yessie Valencia, who notched a distance of 17.07 meters (56'0") to earn silver Friday at the YSU Mid-Major Invite.
PENTATHLON
Junior
Lauren Chappell took part in the multi-event competition Friday, racking up 3,198 points to finish third. It marks the highest point total by an RMU student-athlete since 2014, and the performance by Chappell places her fourth in the Horizon League. She trailed only two student-athletes from Purdue Fort Wayne, with Dylan Kirkwood (3,280) finishing first and Sophia Buck (3,237) claiming silver. Chappell finished second in the high jump Friday with a leap of 1.58 meters (5'2"), trailing only Kirkwood, to compile 712 points. She also scored 606 points in the long jump by finishing third thanks to a distance of 5.17 meters (16'11.50"). On the track, Chappell scored 846 points in the 60-meter hurdles by finishing third with a time of 9.31 seconds.
OTHER FIELD HAPPENINGS
Senior
Tara Gologram claimed bronze Friday in the long jump and in the process shattered a personal best that had stood for over three years. On her second attempt of the afternoon, Gologram notched a distance of 5.64 meters (18'6"). It was part of an all-around effort in the event, as Gologram also registered leaps of 5.63 meters on her third and sixth and final leap, as well as 5.60 meters on her fourth attempt. Zoee Gologram, Tara's sister, also competed in the long jump Friday, posting a leap of 5.05 meters (16'6.75").

Carmen Medvit finished 16th out of over 50 entrants Friday in the 5,000-meter. It was the collegiate debut for Medvit in the event as she crossed the finish line with a time of 18:50.43.

RMU concludes the YSU Mid-Major Invitational Saturday, Jan. 29, at WATTS on the campus of Youngstown State University. Competition begins at 9:30 a.m. with the shot put, with the mile opening track events at 9:45 a.m.
