Moon Township, Pa. – The RMU Department of Athletics announced Tuesday it has partnered with Dollar Energy Fund to create "Points For Power" to assist families in the Pittsburgh region struggling to make ends meet and keep their homes warm this winter.

The "Points For Power" program donates $1.00 for every point scored by the RMU men's and women's basketball teams during the 2021-22 season. Each dollar donated by RMU Athletics for "Points For Power" will be matched dollar for dollar by Dollar Energy Fund's utility partners, with 100 percent of all donations used to help local families. So far this season the Colonials have scored 1,435 points and raised $2,870.

"RMU Athletics is thrilled to partner with Dollar Energy Fund to assist families in need in Pittsburgh's West Hills and throughout the region," RMU Vice President & Director of Athletics Chris King '94 said. "We are thankful for their utility partners that will be matching points scored by our men's and women's basketball teams this season in this life-changing community endeavor."

In addition to "Points For Power," RMU Fans can also "text to give" during all RMU home games at the UPMC Events Center as well as through television and radio broadcasts. RMU will also host two "Dollar Energy Fund Nights" at the UPMC Events Center when the men's team hosts IUPUI Thursday, Feb. 17, and when the women's program welcomes Wright State Friday, Feb. 18. Fans can receive tickets to either game with donations to Dollar Energy Fund either in advance or on the day of the game at the UPMC Events Center.

"We appreciate the support of RMU Athletics and the men's and women's basketball programs as we work together to spread the warmth to local families through the Points for Power initiative," said Dollar Energy Fund CEO Chad Quinn. "The funds raised through this new partnership will benefit limited-income households during a critical time as the Pittsburgh region experiences colder, winter temperatures."

Dollar Energy Fund has provided more than $230 million in utility assistance since 1983. Over 762,000 households (2.3 million individuals) have benefited from the program. Every year, a total of 12,500 households in Pennsylvania receive a grant from Dollar Energy Fund, enabling them to maintain or restore basic utilities such as gas, water or electricity.
