RMU Loses to Oakland on the Road

RMU Volleyball Recap (11/1/22)

Moon Township, Pa. – The RMU volleyball team loses to Oakland on the road 0-3. The Colonials overall record is now 9-18 (.333) during the 2022 season, and 2-13 (.133) in the Horizon League.
 
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
The first set in Rochester, Mich. was an absolute battle, as both teams were tied 14 different times in the set. The Colonials took their first lead with the score at 10-9. The senior libero Allena Carmody sneaked in a kill. Then freshman setter Kaitlyn Brown followed, scoring another point making it 11-10. RMU collected a two point lead three times later on in the set, when Abby Ryan's kill made it 17-15, and Tatum Otolski spiked one down, providing an 18-16 lead. Abby Ryan and sophomore Ally Christman scored once again and the Colonials looked ahead 20-17. Going down 23-24, senior outside hitter Alyssa Hudak got one back for the Colonials, tying the game up 24-24. With needing to win by two, the Golden Grizzlies won the next two points and took the set 24-26.
 
In the second set, RMU held onto a 9-9 tie. Four different Colonials provided kills during the set and Allena Carmody served an ace. Oakland kept the momentum and won the set 14-25.
 
Finally, during the third set, in similar fashion the score stayed even early on. RMU tied Oakland three different times. Kaitlyn Brown produced a kill to tie it up 10-10. In the end, the Golden Grizzlies won the set 15-25 and would win the match 0-3.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
The Colonials had three different players posting 10 digs or more, as senior libero Allena Carmody defended 20, Ally Christman with 15 and Kaitlyn Brown had 10. Carmody led all players on the floor in digs and Christman posted the third most. Carmody now in six career games against the Golden Grizzlies has 74 digs and six service aces. Junior Abby Ryan now owns 49 kills in six games against Oakland.
 
UP NEXT
RMU will finish the season all at home as they face Youngstown State (11/4) at 6:00 p.m. in the UPMC Events Center. The Colonials will then finish up the regular season the following weekend playing Wright State (11/11) at 6:00 p.m. and Northern Kentucky (11/12) will be senior day at 4:00 p.m.
