Moon Township, Pa – As the Robert Morris University men's and women's hockey teams continue to prepare to return to the ice for the 2023-24 campaign, the Colonials announced Tuesday they will host a doubleheader Saturday, October 7, 2023, at
Clearview Arena at the RMU Island Sports Center to open their home schedules. The women will
faceoff against Saint Anselm and the men will take on Bowling Green, with times to be announced at a later date.
RMU vs SAINT ANSELM
Come October, it'll be the first home game for the Colonials in over 952 days with the last one being played on February 27, 2021. The home opener will be the first-ever meeting between the Colonials and Hawks. In 2020-21 Robert Morris captured its third College Hockey America (CHA) championship, knocking off Syracuse in a thrilling 1-0 game to send the Colonials to the 2021 NCAA Tournament. It was the first postseason title since 2017, where Robert Morris took down the Syracuse Orange again, capturing a 2-0 shutout victory and their first ever berth to the NCAA Tournament.
When these two squads meet at the RMU Island Sports Center, there will be a familiar face on the opposing side. Saint Anselm is led by RMU alum Jen
Kindret.
Kindret is a former four-year standout for the Colonials before graduating in 2013 with a degree in Sport Management. A two-time CHA All-Academic Team selection, she helped RMU to their first CHA postseason title in 2012 and finished her career with 121 games played.
Kindret served a two-year stint as the top Assistant Coach for the nationally-ranked Colonials, helping the team to 36 wins in just two seasons. She was a part of the 2021 CHA title-winning program that made the institution's second NCAA postseason appearance.
"We are very excited to welcome Saint Anselm to the Island Sports Center as our home opener for the relaunch of RMU hockey," RMU women's hockey head coach
Logan Bittle said. "Their head coach Jen
Kindret is a former RMU player and coach and we are thrilled to welcome her back along with her team. It's going to be a very exciting weekend having Colonial hockey back at the Island."
RMU vs. BOWLING GREEN
This will mark the first home game for Robert Morris in over 937 days as the last contest was played on March 14, 2021. It will be the eighth all-time meeting between the Colonials and Falcons and the first at
Clearview Arena since the 2020 season.
RMU and Bowling Green have had some historical battles in the past as the Colonials opened the 2018-19 season by knocking off the No. 20 ranked Falcons, 3-2 at
Clearview Arena. In 2014-15, it was a clash between two ranked opponents as the 19th-ranked Colonials overcame a two-goal deficit to earn a 2-2 tie with No. 13 Bowling Green in the program's first-ever outdoor game as part of the Walleye
Winterfest extravaganza.
"We are so excited to open up against Bowling Green," RMU men's hockey head coach
Derek Schooley said. "
BGSU has been at the top of their conference every year and we have had some memorable battles with them so it was only natural that we relaunch our program with games against a regional rival. I know this will be another memorable game against the Falcons."
