Dayton, OH. – The Robert Morris women's basketball team opened Horizon League action and a four-game road slate by capturing a 68-47 victory at Wright State on Friday night at the Nutter Center. With the win, the Colonials improve to 6-1 this season with a 1-0 mark in conference play. RMU has now won the last five meetings between the two squads. Meanwhile, the Raiders fall to 1-5 overall behind a 0-1 record in league play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Wright State opened the contest with a 3-2 lead before Robert Morris rattled off seven-straight points, four of them coming from sophomore forward
Phoenix Gedeon. Later in the quarter, the Raiders would trim the deficit to 11-10 before the Colonials went on a 12-2 run, thanks to three triples to hold a 23-12 advantage after one. The Raiders opened the second quarter on a 7-5 run before both teams traded the next 10 points as RMU held a 33-24 advantage with 3:25 to play in the half. After a three pointer from Wright State, sophomore guard
Rebecca Dwomoh responded with a three of her own as the Colonials held a 37-29 lead at the half. RMU knocked down seven three-pointers in the opening 20 minutes.
Robert Morris held a 41-34 lead midway through the third quarter before both teams went almost two minutes without a bucket. After a jumper by sophomore center
Danielle Vuletich, the Colonials extended its lead with a 9-5 run, converting three-of-three from behind the arc, led by freshman Candela Rabadan Solis, who knocked down a pair of triples. Robert Morris never took its foot off the pedal as they held the Raiders to just 2-of-10 from the field in the fourth quarter, outscoring them 16-6. Wright State cut it to a 10-point deficit and that would be the closest it got as RMU scored 14 of the next 17 points, eight of them coming from freshman forward
Paris Kirk.
