Colonials Dealt Loss At West Virginia

Morgantown, W.Va – Playing its third-straight road game, the Robert Morris women's basketball team suffered a 72-42 defeat at West Virginia in non-conference action at the WVU Coliseum on Thursday night. With the loss, the Colonials fall to 6-3 overall this season. Meanwhile, the Mountaineers improve to 7-1 this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
West Virginia scored the opening four points to begin the contest before sophomore guard Rebecca Dwomoh knocked down a triple to pull within one. The Mountaineers would score 12 unanswered points over the next three and a half minutes to open their lead, 16-3. Freshman guard Louella Allana would end the scoring drought with a pair of free-throws as WVU led 21-5. After a layup by Tavy Diggs to begin the second quarter, Robert Morris scored nine-consecutive points, led by sophomore forward Phoenix Gedeon and Allana as the Colonials trimmed the lead, 23-14. West Virginia responded with a 9-3 run as they held a 32-21 advantage at the half.

Both squads opened the second half by trading the first 12 points as Dwomoh and Gedeon paced the way for RMU. The Mountaineers scored eight of the next 10 points by going eight-for-eight from the charity stripe and pushed their lead to 46-29 with just under two minutes to play in the third. RMU opened the fourth on a 7-3 run when freshman guard Natalie Johnson drilled a three-pointer and Gedeon and sophomore center Danielle Vuletich converted layups.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Gedeon paced the way for RMU as she finished with a team high 14 points and collected five rebounds before fouling out. Dwomoh tallied nine points, tied her season high with 5 rebounds and collected three steals in 31 minutes of action. Sophomore Simone Morris registered six points and four boards, three of them coming on the offensive. Allana gave the Colonials solids minutes off the bench, recording five points, a season best six rebounds and three assists. Robert Morris converted 8-of-13 from the charity stripe, while forcing 14 turnovers.

PRODUCTIVE BENCH
Since the beginning of the season, the bench has been nothing but productive for RMU this season. With 14 points tonight, the Colonials are averaging 23.4 points per game through the first nine contests this season. Vuletich is leading the way after averaging 8.4 points and 4.4 boards per game. Sophomore Paris Kirk continues to give RMU good minutes, recording 6.1 points and 3.6 boards, while Allana has registered over three points, 2.1 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and just under a steal a game.

UP NEXT
RMU concludes its four-game road slate on Sunday, Dec. 11, when it travels to Norman, Oklahoma to take on the Sooners for a non-conference contest at 2:00 p.m.
