FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Robert Morris women's basketball team kicked off its final leg of a two-week Midwest tour with a victory over the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons. The Colonials posted a 60-48 win at the Gates Sport Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The victory moves RMU to 9-12 overall and 7-9 in Horizon League play.Â
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
The Colonials made their presence known early on, tallying an 11-point run and holding Purdue Fort Wayne scoreless for 7:32 of the first quarter. RMU never ceased pressure throughout the remainder of the game, holding a minimum 10-point lead over PFW at six separate points in the game.
LEADING THE WAY
Three separate players tallied double-digit points in the victory. In addition to Klopfenstein's 14,
Sol Castro and
Esther Castedo each added 11 of their own. This marks the sixth time this season that three or more players contributed double-digit points.
HOMECOMING
Senior
Ashya Klopfenstein is a native of Howe, Indiana, which resides roughly one hour outside of Fort Wayne city limits. To commemorate the trip, Klopfenstein put up a team-leading 14-points, going 5-8 from the paint with eight rebounds.
OFF THE BENCH
The RMU bench has been dynamite this season when it comes to producing points and getting rebounds. Against Purdue Fort Wayne, the Robert Morris bench tallied 13 points, led by
Simone Morris' seven. In addition, the RMU bench attacked the glass to earn 14 rebounds, with a career-high nine grabs from Phoenix Gideon.
