COLUMBUS, Oh. - The Robert Morris women's lacrosse team lost its 2022 season opener Saturday afternoon against the Ohio State Buckeyes, falling by a final score of 17-5 at the Woody Hayes Athletic Complex. The loss moves the Colonials to 0-1 on the season.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Ohio State came out of the gates flying Saturday afternoon in Columbus, racing to a 4-0 lead in the first 2:33 of action and never really looking back as they kept their foot on the gas despite some quality looks from the Colonials. Though Jordan Anderson finally managed to stem the early push for OSU with her first of the season to cut it to 4-1, the next four goals were all Ohio State who soon found themselves up 8-1 and rolling before the first quarter was out. Goals from Bailey Christianson and Jerica Obee helped cut it to a seven goal lead for the Buckeyes, however two more before the half put OSU on cruise control heading into the third quarter.
SEASON FIRSTS
Anderson, Christianson, Obee, Colleen Tifft and Lilli Hadden all scored their first goals of the season for RMU Saturday afternoon. For Obee, it was also her first in a Colonials jersey as well as her first collegiate goal after racking up four assists in 11 games with St. Bonaventure during the 2021 campaign.
KELLER STARTS
After making 24 appearances in goal for the Colonials over the past three seasons, senior keeper Jamie Keller finally earned her first career start Saturday against the Buckeyes. Keller made nine stops for RMU setting a new career best in the process. Jenna Irwin and Jerica Obee also made their first career starts.
CLEAR EYES
After a tough first quarter in transition for RMU that saw the Colonials go just 1-4 on clear attempts, RMU managed to lock it down the rest of the afternoon, going a perfect 101-0 over the final three quarters.
NEXT UP
The Colonials return to Joe Walton Stadium next Saturday, February 19 when they host Canisius in their home opener at noon.
