PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Robert Morris women's basketball team lost its regular season finale Sunday afternoon at UPMC Events Center, dropping a 64-49 decision to the Northern Kentucky Norse. The loss drops RMU to 12-13 overall and 10-10 in Horizon League play.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
A 15-0 run by the Norse to start the game left the Colonials in a deep hole to dig themselves out of Sunday afternoon at UPMC Events Center. NKU managed to bury six of their first eight from the field including a pair of three-balls from Grayson Rose and Lindsey Duvall before a Nina Augustin jumper finally managed to put the Colonials on the board at the 6:21 mark of the first quarter. Twelve points in the paint for the Norse including seven second-chance points in the first 10 minutes of action made life difficult for RMU as they tried to claw their way back into things following the strong start by the Norse.
SENIOR DAY
The Colonials kicked off the game Sunday with a special pregame Senior Day ceremony honoring their four-girl class of 2022 as Nina Augustin, Esther Castedo, Natalie Villaflor and Sydney Palermo were recognized for their contributions to the RMU program over the last four seasons. Castedo led all seniors in scoring on the day with nine points.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
The Colonials found their footing in the second, keeping pace with the Norse and cutting it down to a low as a six point game after a layup from Alejandra Mastral, however the Colonials could not sustain the push past the second frame. NKU out-scored RMU 21-13 in the third to push it to an 18 point lead heading into the fourth quarter. Despite outscoring NKU 16-8 over the final 8:29 of action, the damage had been done as NKU walked away with a 64-49 win.
QUOTABLES
"It felt like for moments we were still in it even when we were down 15, and and times it was unique in that it felt like we weren't really close to them. It was a back and forth game and, fortunately we haven't had too many that way this year, but it's one I wish we had back. I felt like we had so much more to give in that game, and that we knew them so much better than what we showed." - Associate Head Coach Scott Schneider
NEXT UP
The Colonials close out the regular season next week with a pair of road games at UIC and IUPUI on Thursday and Saturday.
