CHICAGOÂ - The Robert Morris University women's basketball team managed to hold off the UIC Flames in the final seconds of Thursday evening's game at Credit Union 1 Arena. The 57-50 victory moves the Colonials to 13-13 on the season and 11-10 in the Horizon League.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Despite UIC's two-win season, the Flames were able to remain in constant competition with the Colonials through out the first two quarters of the game. The largest lead that RMU held came at the end of the second quarter when the Colonials went on a 6-2 run, holding a 32-23 lead going into halftime.
The Flames came out blazing in the third quarter, as they cut down the RMU lead and kept the game within reach.
With Jaida McCloud going 1-for-2 at the line with 30-seconds remaining, the game sat at 53-50. However, the Colonials went 4-for-4 in the final seconds from the line and were able to secure the win.
GAME HIGHS
Senior Natalie Villaflor led the team in points this evening at set a new career-high of 14 points against the Flames. The Ashburn, Va., native additionally tied her season-high of five rebounds. Sophomore Sol Castro led the Colonials at the boards with eight on the evening.
FREE (THROWS) FALLIN'
RMU went 11-for-19 at the line tonight, but the shots fell when needed. The Colonials did not make a free throw until the final quarter, when they made 11-of-17 opportunities, with Villaflor shooting 100% in the final nine seconds of the game.
