Colonials Drop Showdown With Bison

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Robert Morris women's lacrosse team dropped a Saturday afternoon showdown with the Bucknell Bison, falling 17-6 at Graham Field. The loss moves RMU to 1-3 on the season.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED

The lowest scoring quarter of action of the season to date kicked things off Saturday in Lewisburg, as both squads found themselves deadlocked at 1-1 with under two minutes to play.  Though the Bison opened up a 1-0 lead with just over ten minutes to go in the first, Kelsey Nelson pulled the Colonials even less than two minutes later to knot things at one-all.  While Jamie Keller managed a remarkable ten saves in the first period of play for RMU, two quick goals 13 seconds apart for the Bison with 34 seconds left gave them a two-goal cushion heading into the second.  Two more straight goals to start the second made the gap even wider for RMU, who found themselves trailing the remainder of the afternoon.

IRWIN HEATING UP

Following her explosive five-goal performance against Detroit Mercy earlier this week, freshman Jenna Irwin stayed hot Saturday in Lewisburg, leading the Colonials with three goals for her second straight hat trick. The Liverpool, N.Y. native has now scored in three straight games, racking up nine total goals in that span.

MAKING AN IMPACT

Despite the final score, the Colonials enjoyed a number of strong performances defensively against the Bison. Keller finished the day with 13 saves, the most for her career and the most by an RMU keeper since Katelyn Miller managed 18 against Liberty on opening day last season. Madison Griffin was also a factor in the midfield for RMU, grabbing an impressive ten draw controls and causing a season-high four turnovers, both of which led all players on both teams Saturday. The graduate also scooped a pair of ground balls, tied for the team lead.

NEXT UP

The Colonials get back into MACtion next Wednesday, March 2 when they resume conference play at Kent State at 4:00 p.m.
