Moon Township, Pa. – The Robert Morris women's basketball team fell in the first of four-game road swing to Milwaukee Thursday night at the Klotsche Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin falling to the host Panthers by a final score of 68-48. The loss moves the Colonials to 9-11 overall and 7-8 in Horizon League play.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
The Colonials played a neck-and-neck game through the first two quarters of play, only trailing 31-28 at halftime. The duo of Emma Witermhaus and Sydney Staver combined for 14 points in the first two quarters, but 11 giveaways for the Panthers continued to provide the Colonials momentum. Down 24-17 with 5:12 to play in the second, Ashya Klopfenstein rattled off four straight points before a jumper from Sol Castro cut it down to just a three-point lead. Freshman Rebecca Dwomoh buried a corner three with 1:50 remaining, the final bucket of the first half to make it a one-possession game. A 10-point run by the Panthers to open the third quarter proved to be the turning point, as Milwaukee slowly grew a 15, then 20-point lead over RMU. The Panthers knocked down their first eight shots from the field to start the third and finished the night at a remarkable 65.9% clip. This is largely credited to Megan Walstad's double-double, where she registered 23 points and 11 rebound on the night.
LEADERS OF THE NIGHT
Mackenzie Amalia led the Colonial offense Thursday night with nine points, shooting 50% from the arcx. Sol Castro and Phoenix Gideon took control at the rim, collecting four and three rebounds, respectively.
