GREEN BAY, Wisc. - The Robert Morris women's basketball team lost a Saturday afternoon matchup against the Green Bay Phoenix 57-41 at the Kress Center. The loss moves RMU to 9-12 and 7-9 in Horizon League play.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
A strong opening quarter from the Phoenix put Green Bay in the driver's seat early Saturday at the Kress Center. After Nina Augustin knocked down a three for the game's opening bucket 1:05 into things Saturday, a remarkable 25-0 run from the Phoenix saw them surge ahead to take control of the action. Despite RMU causing 11 first-half turnovers, the Colonials could not get their shots to fall, going just 1-20 from the field until Rebecca Dwomoh managed to knock down another three with 5:14 to play in the second quarter. Green Bay would stretch the lead to 32-8 before the half was out.
AUGUSTIN ON TOP
Fifth-year guard Nina Augustin passed Mikalah Mulrain for first place on the program all-time games played list Saturday at Green Bay, suiting up for game #131 in her Colonials career. Currently eighth on the all-time program assist record and climbing, Augustin set a new season high for threes on the afternoons going 4-8 from behind the arc and led RMU with 12 points.
AMALIA STARTS
Sophomore Mackenzie Amalia earned her first career start Saturday against the Phoenix, finishing with nine points points on 3-9 from behind the arc. Amalia appeared in 32 contests over two seasons for RMU before finally getting the nod Saturday.
SECOND HALF SURGE
Despite the lopsided score at the half, the Colonials stuck to their game and eventually found their footing in the final 20 minutes, outscoring Green Bay 33-25 over the last two quarters. Augustin and Amalia each buried three three-pointers in the second half, while the Colonials hit seven of their last twelve from the field to end the game.
