RMU Tames the Bears in First Win of the 2022 Season

Several RMU players score in the 13-11 win over Mercer.

The Robert Morris University men's lacrosse team secured their first victory of the season with a dominant 13-11 win over the Mercer Bears at Five Star Stadium in Macon, Georgia. The Saturday afternoon win moves the Colonials to 1-3 on the year and gives Head Coach Craig McDonald his first career victory as a head coach.

MOMENTS THAT MATTER
The Colonials could not be stopped early on, outscoring the Bears 6-1 though the first quarter and early second quarter of play. Prior to halftime, Mercer was able to come within three before Dan Taddeo scored his first of three goals to extend the RMU lead to four.
Mercer came within three goals, once again, in the late stages of the fourth quarter. With xxx on the clock Will Johansen's windup goal landed in the net to take some pressure off of the Colonials.

AIR TADDEO
With his three goals against the Bears, senior Dan Taddeo has secured his first career hat trick for the Colonials. Two of his three on the day were impressive, mid-air shots that allowed RMU to advance the score and secure the win.

SCORING IS FOR EVERYONE
Seven different players scored for the Colonials today. Attackmen Taddeo (3), Jake Boudreau (2), Corson Kealey (2), Taggart Clark and Eli Doyle, as well as midfielders Will Johansen and Ben Starkey, as well as long stick midfielders James Leary and Johnny Chaisson all tallied goals for RMU today.

BEGINNING OF A NEW ERA
The victory over Mercer marks the first win in Craig McDonald's tenure at Robert Morris and his first win as an NCAA head coach.

POST GAME QUOTE FROM HEAD COACH CRAIG MCDONALD
"I am extremely proud of our guys for continuing to grind and work, not only in this game but during the past couple of weeks in practice.  I am excited to see their hard work pay off for them today.  It was a great team win on the road against a good opponent who challenged us on everything for 60 minutes.  We got contributions by so many different players and our intensity on the field as a team was great. We will enjoy this feeling for a couple of hours but we have a quick turnaround and another great opponent ahead of us on Wednesday at home."

UP NEXT

Robert Morris will return to Joe Walton Stadium on Wednesday, March 9th, when they welcome MAAC opponent Canisius to Moon Township. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
