Colonials Fall at Washington

RMU concludes Pacific Northwest trip with doubleheader at Seattle

Moon Township, Pa. – The RMU softball team continued its trip through the Pacific Northwest Tuesday, dropping an 11-0 decision to Washington in five innings in Seattle, Wash., at Husky Softball Stadium. The Colonials slipped to 10-6 (.625) overall during the 2022 campaign.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
The Huskies scored in each of the home half of the first, second, third and fourth innings against the Colonials, including four runs in both the third and fourth. Olivia Johnson opened the scoring with an RBI double in the bottom of the first, Kinsey Fielder connected for a two-run shot to right in the second and Brooke Nelson hit a two-run single and Angie Yellen a two-run triple in the third. In the bottom of the fourth, Washington (16-5) scored four runs on three hits and were aided by an RMU error.

LEADING OFF
Freshman Alaina Koutsogiani led off the game with a single to right for the Colonials, but she was forced out at second two batters later when senior Erika Bell reached on a fielder's choice. Koutsogiani finished 1-for-2 for the Colonials, while freshman Anna Resnik drew a walk leading off the fourth inning. The Huskies, winners of four straight and six of their last seven, helped Nelson improve to 2-0 during the 2022 season from the circle by striking out six in five innings of work.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Junior Rachael Rhinehart came on in relief against Washington Tuesday, pitching two thirds of an inning and allowing one hit. During RMU's trip to the West Coast, Rhinehart, a native of Woodinville, Wash., which is part of the Seattle metropolitan area, has posted an 0.51 earned run average (ERA) in 13.2 innings of work, striking out 17 during that stretch.
