Logan Field at SU Park with Seattle. The Colonials earned a 3-1 victory in game one before dropping the nightcap, 10-2, in six innings. GAME 1 • W, 3-1
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Trailing, 1-0, heading into the top of the fourth, the Colonials snapped a streak of 32 straight scoreless innings by plating three runs on four hits. Freshman
Anna Resnik opened the frame with a single down the line in right field, and senior
Erika Bell followed with a double, putting a pair of runners in scoring position. Senior
Brittney Seibert came on to pinch run for Bell, and fifth-year
Taylor Rhinehart reached on a fielder's choice. Resnik was thrown out at the plate trying to tie the contest on a chopper back to the pitcher by Rhinehart, but another hometown hero came through on the next at bat for RMU. Sophomore
Charlotte Grover, like Rhinehart a native of Woodinville, Wash., doubled to clear the bases and give the Colonials a 2-1 lead. Two batters later freshman
Jess Matheny cranked another double, bringing home Grover to push the advantage to 3-1.
FIRST WIN
Sophomore
Jane Garver got the starting nod for RMU in game one and picked up her first win of the year from the circle. She scattered six hits in five innings, with her only mistake a home run by Kalyn Hill with a full count in the bottom of the second that gave the Redhawks an early 1-0 cushion. Garver struck out a pair and did not walk a batter. Senior
Dana Vatakis came on in relief of Garver and pitched the final two innings to post her first save of the 2022 campaign. She faced nine batters, allowing one hit and a pair of free passes, but got six groundouts while tossing 23 strikes out of her 35 pitches.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Grover finished 2-for-3 with a run and a pair of RBI to lead the RMU offense in the game one triumph, while Matheny notched her first collegiate RBI that gave the Colonials a two-run lead. Vatakis, meanwhile, made her 72nd career appearance at RMU and earned her first collegiate save.
GAME 2 • L, 2-10 (6 innings)
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Seattle (12-10) was able to garner a split in the first-ever doubleheader between the two programs by grabbing an early 5-0 lead after just one inning en route to the win. The big hit in the home half of the first again came from Hill, who connected for a three-run shot off RMU rookie starter
Madison DeVault. Lily Garcia collected three hits and three RBI for the Redhawks, including an RBI double in the bottom of the sixth that completed the victory.
LEADING OFF
Freshman
Alaina Koutsogiani led off game two with a bunt single and stole second, but the Colonials were unable to bring her around to score. Matheny also had a single in the second but the only other hit for RMU came in the fourth, as sophomore
Catalina Saxen came on to pinch hit with the bases full and laced a two-run single, which scored sophomore
Julia Ehrman and freshman
Logan Black. Those were the only two runs allowed by Seattle starter Grace Luderer, who worked around four walks, including three in the fourth as the Colonials plated their two runs.
