Colonials Earn Third-Straight Win, Start Conference Play 1-0

Taggart Clark and Corson Kealey each scored four in RMU's dominant ASUN debut

Despite a slower start, the Robert Morris University men's lacrosse team earned their third-straight and first ever ASUN win on Saturday against the Detroit Mercy Titans at Seaholm High School in Birmingham, Mich. The win moves RMU to 5-4 on the season and 1-0 in conference play.

MOMENTS THAT MATTER
It took most of the first quarter for the Colonials to really pick up their speed against Detroit Mercy. However, at the 10:08 mark of the first, reigning ASUN Player of the Week Corson Kealey opened the game, and the ASUN's conference, scoring. With five remaining in the quarter, the Titian's top scorer Brett Erskine tied the game at one.

Ending the first quarter in a low-scoring tie, Jake Boudreau scored his 12th of the season to give the Colonials the 2-1 lead, which they would not give up for the remainder of the contest. Before the completion of the half, RMU posted a 6-1 run, holding the Titans scoreless for over five minutes.

In the second half of the game, RMU outscored Detroit Mercy, 7-2, with Corson Kealey and Taggart Clark both tallying four goals. This is the second-straight six-point performance from Kealey.

FOUR FOR YOU

Both Taggart Clark and Corson Kealey tallied four goals in the win over the Titans. Additionally, Ben Starkey, Jake Boudreau and Eric Swagerty all put one in the net for Robert Morris. Swagerty's fourth goal in two games served as the first man-down goal for RMU this season.

KEAL-ING IT

Corson Kealey is now riding an 18-game scoring streak, dating back to the beginning of the 2021 season. The graduate student achieved multiple single-game, season-highs with six-points, 13 shots, one CTO and four ground balls.

BOUDREAU
Graduate student Jake Boudreau has shown off his versatility throughout the season so far. Today was no exception with the midfielder collecting a season-high seven ground balls and causing two turnovers. Additionally, Boudreau had a goal and two assists in the Colonials victory.

GREAT GOALIES
Nate Randall and Ben Savick split time in net for RMU in the early afternoon contest. In the first half of the game, Michigan native Randall made four saves. In the second half, Savick stepped in to shutdown 12 shots.

POST-GAME QUOTE FROM HEAD COACH CRAIG MCDONALD
"Today was a good road win to start ASUN play.  I'm proud of our guys for their response after a sluggish start. As a group, we were a bit inconsistent today. That is an area in which we will have to be much better moving forward.  We have a lot of hard work ahead of us as we prepare to defend the Joe next Saturday."

UP NEXT
Robert Morris is set to return to Joe Walton on April 9th for a lacrosse doubleheader. The RMU women's lacrosse team is set to take on Kent State at noon, followed by the men's team taking on Bellarmine at 3 p.m.
