YSU Takes Regular Season Finale from The Colonials

RMU receives 2022 MAC Regular Season Title as part of a three-way tie.

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - The Robert Morris women's lacrosse team suffered its second conference loss of the season Saturday, falling 19-17 to the Youngstown State Penguins at Joe Walton Stadium. The loss drops RMU to 8-8 overall and 8-2 in the MAC. Despite the loss, the Colonials were able to claim the 2022 Regular Season Title as a part of a three-way tie between Central Michigan, Youngstown State and the Colonials.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
There was no way to determine which way this game would go throughout the first three quarters. YSU started out strong, putting three past goalkeeper Jamie Keller in the first four minutes of play. However, the Colonials were quick to come back with four goals of their own.

This was a reoccurring theme throughout the second and third quarter, which led to the lead changing over four times. After back-to-back goals from Mackenzie Bell and Colleen Tifft that gave RMU a 13-9 lead, the Penguins regrouped at the 7:36 mark of the third quarter and scored five unanswered goals to reclaim the lead once more.

Despite Jerica Obee tying the game at the 11:44 mark of the fourth quarter, YSU once again regained momentum and four more goals to seal the games fate.

CONSISTENCY IS KEY
Colleen TifftJerica Obee, and Julia Koterwas all managed to extend their goal streaks in the loss. Tifft finished the day with four goals, while Obee tallied a hat trick and Koterwas earned two. Tifft owns the high-water mark at 12 games while Obee hit 11 and Koterwas nine.

ACROSS THE BOARD

Eight separate members of the RMU women's lacrosse team scored in today's loss. Tifft had four on the day, while Obee had three. Kelsey Nelson, Mackenzie Bell and Lilli Hadden all tallied two goals for the Colonials. Meanwhile, Haley Mojsej and Jenna Irwin each added one.
