Robert Morris Claims 2022 ASUN Lacrosse Title

Elliot Holden's OT winner secures the ASUN crown for RMU.

There was no rest for the Robert Morris University men's lacrosse team as they forced overtime in the 2022 ASUN Men's Lacrosse Championship game and then went on to win at the 2:16 mark of overtime off a shot by Elliot Holden.

MOMENTS THAT MATTER

Despite Utah striking first, RMU was able to come back quickly with a goal from Bo Columbus off of the faceoff. However, by the end of the first quarter, Utah had run up the score 7-3 on the Colonials before Jake Boudreau scored his first of seven goals right before the end of the quarter.

In the second, RMU stormed back with a 5-1 run to tie the game at eight each. It's was Elliot Holden's first of two tiebreakers that gave RMU their first lead of the game.

Trading leads throughout the third quarter, the fourth quarter was highlighted by an explosive 4-1 run by the Utes, which allowed them to carry a 17-15 lead over the Colonials into the final three minutes of regulation.

Bobby Mo was not ready to say die yet. With back-to-back penalties by Utah, both Corson Kealey and Jake Boudreau capitalized on the man-up opportunity and tied the game with 55 seconds remaining in regulation.

With 2:16 remaining in the first overtime Elliot Holden's top-shelf shot flew past the Utah keeper to claim the ASUN crown for Robert Morris.

MAKE IT COUNT

Robert Morris played one of their best games in regard to man-up opportunities. The Colonials went 3-4 on the day, which is a season high for RMU. Additionally, the two goals in the final three minutes of play were both scored on the man-up. This gave Robert Morris a perfect fourth quarter.

LUCKY AS A SEVEN
Jake Boudreau had a career day for the Colonials, scoring seven goals and accumulating ten points. His ten points in a single game ties him for second all-time in points in a single game, which was previously set by Ryan Smith in 2020.

Boudreau was named ASUN Tournament MVP after his 12-point performance over the two rounds of the tournament.

HAVE YOURSELF A DAY

In the high scoring game, Taggart Clark tallied four goals and three assists against Utah this afternoon. Will Johansen tallied his first career hat trick, and Elliot Holden scored in back-to-back games in this tournament.

DYNAMIC DEFENSE
The RMU defense has been outstanding all season, sitting among the top 15 teams nationally in many defensive categories. Five different members of Robert Morris' defense caused a turnover in today's competition, with Josh Schreibeis and Taggart Clark leading the charge with two each. Faceoff specialists Steven DelleMonache and Bo Columbus each collected five groundballs, while Schreibeis and Clark each netted four.

GREAT GOALIES
Since the Marquette match-up, RMU has been splitting goalkeeper duties between freshman Nate Randall and graduate student Ben Savick. The Colonials are now 7-1 under the system. Collectively, the goalie-duo posted ten saves. Ben Savick came in to make eight saves and earn the win for RMU.

FIRSTS
This is the first conference win for RMU since 2019 and RMU will be the first ASUN lacrosse champion of the conference's rebirth. This will be the third NCAA appearance for RMU and the eighth conference title for the Colonials. Additionally, Craig McDonald is the first head coach in Robert Morris program history to win the conference title in his first year with the program.

UP NEXT
RMU earned an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament with the win over Utah and the conference crown. The Colonials next opponent will be announced during the NCAA Men's Lacrosse Selection Show on Sunday, May 8th at 9 p.m.
