Can You Dig It?
 
- The RMU volleyball team returns to action by co-hosting the Chick-fil-A Robinson Labor Day Classic with Duquesne. The Colonials will welcome William & Mary and Canisius to the UPMC Events Center Friday, Sept. 2, before concluding the tournament Saturday, Sept. 3, with a match at Duquesne.
 
- Danny Doherty is in his first full season leading the Colonials after being named head coach Dec. 31, 2021. He served as interim head coach for the final four matches of the 2021 campaign.
 
- The Colonials opened their 2022 season by finishing 1-2 at the JMU Invitational in Harrisonburg, Va., at Sinclair Gymnasium. RMU dropped matches with Kent State (8/26) and the host Dukes (8/27) before earning its first win under Doherty, a 3-1 triumph over UAlbany (8/27), to close out the invite.
 
- Junior outside hitter Annie Monaco was named to the 2022 JMU Invitational All-Tournament Team after pacing the Colonials in kills (25) and service aces (7). She fell a dig shy of recording her first double-double of the 2022 season in the win over the Great Danes, notching 12 kills, nine digs, two service aces and three blocks.
 
- RMU returns 11 letterwinners from 2021, including junior middle blocker/right side Emma Brown and junior outside hitter Abby Ryan, who each started a team-high 12 matches for the Colonials.
 
- Ryan led the Colonials last season with an average of 2.18 kills per set and in three seasons at RMU has amassed 349 career kills and a .111 attack percentage. She has also notched career totals of 251 digs, 23 service aces and 29 total blocks.
 
 - RMU's active leader in career kills is fifth-year outside hitter Alyssa Hudak, who has posted 681 in 325 career sets, an average of 2.10 per set. Hudak is a match away from 100 on her career and also owns career totals of a .200 attack percentage, 229 digs and 152 total blocks.
 
- Senior Allena Carmody finished ninth in the Horizon League last season in digs, averaging 3.40 per set. She posted 326 overall on the year and is RMU's active leader in the category with 676. To open the 2022 campaign at the JMU Invitational last weekend, Carmody racked up a team-high 28 digs.
 
- RMU continues non-conference action after co-hosting the Chick-fil-A Robinson Labor Day Classic, traveling to Morehead, Ky., for the Morehead State Comfort Inn-vitational. The Colonials will take on North Alabama (9/9) and Quinnipiac (9/10) as well as the host Eagles (9/9).

The All-Time Series (William & Mary) – Friday's opener of the 2022 Chick-fil-A Robinson Labor Day Classic marks just the third meeting in the all-time series between the two programs, with the Tribe having won each of the previous two matches. In the last meeting, William & Mary earned a 3-1 win over the Colonials in Blacksburg, Va., as part of the Hokie Invitational August 31, 2018. In that contest former outside hitter Alyson Londot (2017-21) paced the Colonials with 12 kills.
 
The All-Time Series (Canisius) – Friday's match between RMU and Canisius marks the 19th in the all-time series, with the two programs having split the previous 18 meetings. The Colonials have won five of the last six meetings dating back to 2000, including a 3-0 win at the A.J. Palumbo Center as part of the Duquesne Invitational Sept. 1, 2017. Londot finished with 11 kills in the victory, while former middle blocker Emma Granger (2017-21) paced RMU with 15 kills and three blocks.
 
The All-Time Series (Duquesne) – No strangers on the volleyball court, the Colonials own an all-time record of 11-31 (.262) against the Dukes in a series that dates to 1984. RMU has won two straight over Duquesne, including a 3-2 victory last season in the final match of the Chick-fil-A Robinson Labor Day Classic at the UPMC Events Center Sept. 4, 2021. Granger finished with 16 kills, six blocks and a service ace, while junior Abby Ryan contributed 15 kills.
 
Dig Me Out – RMU is looking to add a member to its 1,000 Dig Club for the second consecutive year in 2022. Former libero Nikolette Zanolli (2018-21) became the 13th member last season and concluded her career with 1,059 career digs. Senior Allena Carmody is 324 digs shy of 1,000 for her career and would become the 14th member. Based on a four-set match, Carmody would need to average an even 3.00 digs per set through the remaining 27 matches of the 2022 regular season to reach the threshold.
 
Making The Grade – Junior Abby Ryan was one of three Colonials to claim 2021 Horizon League All-Academic Team Honorable Mention honors. A nursing major, Ryan owns a 3.78 cumulative grade point average and is a four-time member of the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll. Ryan produced three double-doubles last year, including a career-high 20 kills to go along with 12 digs in a 3-2 victory over UMES (8/27) in the 2021 season opener for the Colonials.
