RMU Volleyball Visits Youngstown State

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU women's volleyball team returns to Horizon League action Tuesday, October 6, traveling to Youngstown State for a midweek matchup. First serve is set for 6:00 PM with the game streaming live on ESPN+.
 
RMU LATELY
RMU (3-13, 1-4 #HLVB) is coming off a pair of tightly contested matches against Purdue Fort Wayne, with the Colonials falling in five sets in both contests.
 
In Friday's opener, Lauren Decker led RMU with 18 kills and 12 digs, while Kenlee Barnard recorded a team-high 46 assists and added 12 digs. Keira Hornung added 10 kills and paced the Colonials at the net with six blocks.
 
On Saturday, Hornung and Decker each recorded 17 kills, while Barnard tallied 50 assists. Hornung added a team-high seven blocks, while Decker posted 20 digs, marking her third 20-dig performance of the season.
 
Through 16 matches, Decker leads the Colonials with 222 kills, while Layla Todd has added 140 kills. Barnard has totaled 584 assists after surpassing the 500-assist mark over the weekend. Anahi Alvardo leads RMU with 16 service aces and 171 digs, while Maddie Siphakongviseth has recorded 167 digs. Hornung leads the Colonials defensively with 61 blocks, averaging 1.00 per set.
 
ALL-TIME VS. YOUNGSTOWN STATE
RMU enters Tuesday's matchup with a 13-39 all-time record against Youngstown State but has found success against the Penguins in recent seasons. Since 2023, the Colonials are 4-3 against YSU.
 
The Colonials picked up their first Horizon League victory of the season against Youngstown State earlier this year at the UPMC Events Center. Decker led the way with 24 kills, while Hornung recorded 10 blocks and Siphakongviseth posted 30 digs.
 
SCOUTING THE PENGUINS
Youngstown State (5-9, 1-2 #HLVB) enters the week after splitting a pair of matches against IU Indy. The Penguins swept the Jaguars in the series opener before falling in five sets in the finale.
 
Through 14 matches, Kylie Surratt leads YSU with 196 kills and 26 service aces, while Kameron Blizniak has recorded 359 assists. Journey Nicola has posted a team-high 144 digs, while Korina Barber leads the Penguins with 44 blocks.
 
Last season, Youngstown State finished 17-14 overall and 11-7 in Horizon League play. The Penguins defeated Green Bay in the Horizon League quarterfinals before falling to Wright State in the semifinals.
 
COMMON OPPONENTS
In addition to their Horizon League opponents, both RMU and Youngstown State have faced Duquesne and Kent State during the 2026 season.
 
UP NEXT
Following Tuesday's matchup, RMU will have 10 days off before returning home to the UPMC Events Center. The Colonials will host Oakland for a two-match series October 16-17.
