Fort Wayne, Ind. – The Robert Morris University women's soccer team played its second-straight road game as it suffered a 2-0 defeat at Purdue Fort Wayne on Thursday night in Horizon League action.
With the loss, the Colonials fall to 5-2-3 overall behind a 0-2-1 mark in conference play. Meanwhile, the Mastodons sit at 5-2-3 this season with a 1-0-1 record in league action.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Both teams came out aggressive from the opening kick as they combined for four shots and two corner kicks in the opening 14 minutes. After two more shots from Purdue Fort Wayne, freshman
Cali Laymon fired a shot on goal that was saved by goalkeeper Samantha Castaneda. The two programs combined for three shots and a corner kick before going into the half, 0-0.
In the second half, both teams continued to pepper the net as the Mastodons registered two goals latter in the half. At the 60:41-mark Kelsey Gallagher broke the scoring drought as she won a one-on-one opportunity with the keeper and found the right side of the net, 1-0. Paloma Swankler each recorded a shot on goal but was unfortunately saved by Castaneda. In the 75th minute, Purdue Fort Wayne stretched its lead when Lauren Klusek took advantage of an RMU miscue and found the back of the net, 2-0.
