Green Bay Sweeps Colonials

Sophomore Ally Christman paces RMU with 10 kills and a .318 hitting percentage

Moon Township, Pa. – The RMU volleyball team opened the road portion of its 2022 Horizon League schedule Friday in Green Bay, Wisc., falling to Green Bay, 3-0, at the Kress Center. The Colonials slipped to 7-7 (.500) overall during the 2022 season, including 0-2 in #HLVB.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
RMU was stymied by a Green Bay offense that produced a hitting percentage of .424, racking up 41 kills against just five errors in 85 attempts. The Colonials grabbed an early 4-1 lead in the opening set after a service ace from junior Annie Monaco, but the Phoenix hung a 9-1 run on RMU to grab a 10-5 lead. Cora Behnke, who recorded a match-high 12 kills to go along with a .733 attack percentage, suffering just one error in 15 chances, registered three kills during the surge. Junior outside hitter Abby Ryan was able to stem the tide with a kill, but another spurt from Green Bay, this time an 11-5 run, opened up a 21-11 advantage en route to a 25-13 win.

TWO, THREE
Tied, 4-4, in the second set after a kill from sophomore Ally Christman, Green Bay jumped in front, 10-6, but scoring six of the next eight points. Freshman setter Kaitlyn Brown and Monaco registered back-to-back kills to pull the Colonials to within 10-8, but RMU couldn't get over the hump. The Phoenix grabbed a 21-15 advantage, and Alexandra Zakutney sealed a 25-18 win with a kill on a feed from Calli Gentry, one of her match-high 30 dimes. In the third, consecutive kills from Behnke opened up a 9-4 lead, despite an unsuccessful challenge by the Colonials, and the lead swelled to 18-7 after a slam from Annelise Sparks.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Christman led the Colonials with 10 kills and a .318 hitting percentage while also finishing with seven digs. Fifth-year Alyssa Hudak contributed five kills, while Monaco notched four and two of RMU's three service aces. Senior Allena Carmody continued her march toward 1,000 career digs, racking up 16 against Green Bay (11-5 / 2-0 #HLVB).
