Moon Township, Pa. – In the first of three away games in a row, the Colonials lost to the Golden Grizzlies Thursday night, 71-59. After the first game in 2023, the Colonials are now 7-7 (.500) overall, and 1-4 (.200) in Horizon League action.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Off to a hot start just as last game against Cleveland State, the Colonials pulled together a 6-0 run early in the first to take an 8-2 lead. Simple play benefited RMU, as they scored four consecutive layups to begin the night. The whole starting lineup along with
Danielle Vuletich off the bench all scored a basket in the opening frame. RMU ended the first period up 18-14.
The second period ended up being a vital quarter for Oakland as they outscored Robert Morris 22-8. A nine-point run to begin the second quarter tilted the momentum to the home side for the remainder of the half. Ending the half, the Colonials missed two shots from behind the arc, while the Golden Grizzlies made two, taking a 36-26 lead into the locker room.
RMU got back to pressing the opposition down low and gathered two early rebounds in the opening minute of the third period. Before the media timeout,
Phoenix Gedeon,
Danielle Vuletich and
Alejandra Mastral all scored lay ups to evaporate Oakland's double-digit lead. The Colonials outscored the Golden Grizzlies 19-16 in the third period. After 30 minutes of play, Oakland remained ahead 52-45.
On two separate occasions, the Colonials clawed their way back to only being down by five, keeping the game close. But, in the end, Oakland would pull away scoring 19 more points and winning the game 71-59.
