Dayton, Ohio – The Colonials opened its three-game road slate in Dayton, Ohio on Tuesday night, falling to Wright State 3-1, in conference play at C.J. McLin Gymnasium.
With the loss, the RMU volleyball team falls to 6-18 overall with a 3-10 mark on league action. Meanwhile the Raiders improve to 13-10 this season behind a 9-3 record in Horizon League play.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Wright State came out swinging in the opening stanza, leading them to hit .600 for the set and grab an early 1-0 match advantage. In frame two it was a different story as RMU battled to even the match with a 25-21 victory. The Colonials mounted a 5-2 spurt to begin the set, as graduate student
Rosina Esposito registered a kill and junior
Jaidan Hockman collected a service ace. The Raiders netted four consecutive scores to take a 6-5 lead before RMU scored eight of the next 10 points to force a Wright State timeout.
Sophomore
Hillarie Adams paced the charge with a pair of successful swings while senior
Emma Brown found the floor successfully and freshman
Azra Eric produced an ace during the run. Later in the set, the Colonials held an 18-12 lead before the Raiders rattled off an 8-4 surge to trim the deficit. RMU would stall the run after collecting three of the final five points, thanks to a pair of kills from Adams and Esposito.
FINAL SET
After five ties and three lead changes, the Raiders would claim a 2-1 match advantage after bolstering 19 kills in frame three. In the fourth stanza, Wright State jumped out to an early 7-2 lead to force an RMU timeout before consecutive kills from junior
Abby Powers and a Raiders attacking error trimmed the deficit. The Raiders responded with an 8-1 run, led by Reilly Zegunis, who found the floor successfully four times. Later in the set, Brown registered another successful swing but Wright State continued to force the pressure, scoring six straight points, 23-12. Esposito and Brown would both collect a kill before the Raiders claimed the match.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
Esposito paced the Colonials with her second kill/dig double-double of the campaign, recording 12 successful swings and 11 digs on Tuesday. Brown and Adams each registered six kills and two digs each while Powers found the floor four times and collected a dig.
Ashleigh Wallin collected 13 assists, five digs, and two aces while
Katie Cook tallied 11 helpers and one block.
Allena Carmody collected 18 digs while
Ally Christman posted 12 digs and two kills. Hockman finished with six digs and tied for the team lead with a pair of aces.

RMU closes its three-game trip with a pair of matches in Wisconsin, traveling to Green Bay on Friday, Oct. 27 before battling Milwaukee on Saturday, Oct. 28.
