Colonials, Raiders Play To Draw

Udeh cards second goal of season, Gorgenyi collects season-high in saves

Dayton, Ohio – The Robert Morris men's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw at Wright State on Saturday afternoon in Horizon League play. The Colonials sit at 4-3-4 overall this season behind a 2-2-1 mark in conference play. Meanwhile, the Raiders are now 3-4-4 overall with a 2-2-1 record in league action.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
It was a scrappy start to the match as both teams combined for six fouls and three shots in the opening 15 minutes. Logan Gilley registered a shot for the Colonials before John Paul Mbuthia placed a shot on net that was wide left at the 17:22 mark.

Over the next 17 minutes, the two squads would continue to battle and have opportunities, combining for six shots and four corner kicks. Anass Hadran paced RMU, registering a pair of shots while placing one on net that was saved by Wright State goalkeeper Alessandro Malterer. Kai McLoughlin got in on the action in the 34th minute, peppering a shot on goal that was unfortunately saved by Malterer.

The Colonials continued to put shots on net as they would strike first at the 35:50 mark. After a foul on Wright State, RMU was awarded a free-kick just outside the top of the box. Senior Darren Gray took the kick for the Colonials as he put a liner in front of the net that would bounce off the head of sophomore Kosi Udeh and find the top left side of the goal, 1-0 RMU.

Just over seven minutes later, Wright State knotted the score at 1-1 off a throw-in that found Henry Hutchinson, who placed it over the keepers head and into the bottom left side of the net in the 43rd minute.

After halftime, the Colonials looked to regain the lead as they fired four consecutive shots, all in just a minute span. Unfortunately, neither could find the back of the net. Gilley ripped a pair of shots while McLoughlin and Fabian Overkamp each tallied an opportunity in the 47th minute.

The Raiders would respond with three shots and three corner kicks over the next eight minutes, with goalkeeper Kieran Gorgenyi collecting a pair of saves during that spurt.

In the 79th minute, each squad tallied an opportunity before the last 10 minutes saw no more shots on target.
