Opening Faceoff
- The RMU men's hockey team returns home to host Sacred Heart for a two-game set after the Thanksgiving break. The first game will be played on Friday, November 24 at 6:00 p.m. and then the following day at 1:00 p.m. For the second game, RMU vs. SHU will be broadcasting on SportsNet Pittsburgh.
- Recently, the Colonials played last night, losing at Canisius, 1-5.
- Freshman McKay Hayes sniped in his team-leading third power play goal of the season.
- Michael Sochan played the last 7:32 of the game, earning his first minutes in college hockey. He made eight saves on eight shots.
- In the faceoff circle, center Dallas Tulik won a team-high 10 draws.
- Freshman Charles Merkley won six of eight faceoffs on the night. Through three games he's taken 24 faceoffs, winning 75% of them.
- Running point on the power play, Michael Craig produced his fifth assist in the campaign and graduate forward Logan Ganie added his fourth.
- Previously on home ice, in RMU's last series against Niagara, George Krotiris sniped in his first career goal.
- Defenseman Cade Townend produced his first multipoint effort for the Colonials on the first night of the series in New York. He rifled in a shorthanded goal and later posted an assist. Townend leads all blue liners on the squad in points with five and is a +3.
- Freshman Tanner Klimpke leads the team in goals and points (4-4—8).
- Logan Ganie is 2-for-2 in shootouts this season.
- Goaltender Chad Veltri is closing in on 3,000 career saves. He currently sits with 2,926.
- In a previous series against Bentley (10/27), Veltri helped RMU win 4-3 by registering a career-high 51 saves.
- He was tabbed Goaltender of the Week by the AHA in week one of the campaign. Â
- On defense, Trevor LeDonne holds a team-high 20 blocks.
- Heading into the 2023-24 season, the staff brought in 16 freshmen which is the largest group of first-year players in the NCAA.
- The team also features many veterans as there are nine graduates. In total, the roster is set to 29 student-athletes.

The All-Time Series vs. Sacred Heart – Historically, the Colonials have dominated the Pioneers in this series, owning a 23-5-1 overall record against the opposing program. The first meeting happened all the way back in RMU's inaugural campaign in 2004. Both teams played at a neutral site in New York as head coach
Derek Schooley and his team won, 4-2. Not playing again till 2010, after that game ended in a tie, RMU went on a tear, winning the next 20 contests with the Pioneers, up until 2018. Through 29 games when playing Sacred Heart, RMU is averaging 3.86 goals per game, cashing in 112 total times. The Colonials have pounded in five or more goals on 10 occasions. Overall, the Colonials have outscored the Pioneers, 112-70.

Scouting the Pioneers – This past season, Sacred Heart finished 17-17-3 overall and were 14-9-3 in Atlantic Hockey conference action. Qualifying for the conference playoffs, SHU took on Niagara in the quarterfinal round of the tournament. They won the first game, 3-1, but then fell the following two games, 1-4 and 3-7.

So far in the 2023-24 campaign, the Pioneers are an even 5-5-0 overall and are 5-2-0 in the AHA. Statistically, graduate forward TJ Walsh leads their squad in goals and points (6-6—12). He also has two game-winning tallies. Sophomore Mikey Adamson owns a team-high nine assists in nine games. And, sophomore Marcus Joughin has cashed in on the power play three times this season. On defense, Dante Fantauzzi and Grant Anderson hold a +7, leading all skaters on the roster in that category. Junior blue liner Hunter Sansbury has blocked 33 shots in 10 games. In goal, sophomore Clark Chase has started and played in all 10 matches. On the year, he owns a 2.52 G.A.A. and .916 save percentage.
