MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. –
Josh Corbin scored a career-high 34 points in RMU's 97-86 victory over FDU on Sunday afternoon in the final game of the Urban-Bennett Memorial Classic. Corbin hit seven 3-pointers and was a perfect 11-for-11 from the foul line.
Justice Williams was two rebounds shy of a double-double with 21 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
TJ Wainwright added a career-high 20 points on 5-of-7 shooting and 10-for-10 from the line for the Colonials (2-4).
Sean Moore was the Knights' (3-3) leading scorer with 21 points and a game-high nine rebounds. DeVante Jamison led all players with nine assists.
At the 16:11 mark of the 1
st half, Williams' layup put RMU ahead for the rest of the game. The Colonials saw its largest lead of the half at 13 points when Williams' 3-pointer made the score 33-20 at 8:39. FDU was able to cut the deficit to seven points at halftime, 48-41.
RMU's lead swelled to 20 points after a pair of Corbin free throws made the score 84-64 with 7:25 remaining in the contest. The Knights would chip away at the lead and whittled it down to five points with 2:31 left after a 17-2 run made the score 86-81.
But the Colonials would convert 11 of 12 free throws inside of two minutes to play to hold off any surge.
As a team, RMU had season-high 97 points, 28 field goals and 30 free throws. They led for 37:30 of the contest and had 21 fast break points to FDU's 13.
Up next, the Colonials begin Horizon League play on November 29 when they visit Northern Kentucky. RMU returns to the UPMC Events Center December 2 against Youngstown State.
