Opening Faceoff
  • The RMU men's hockey team entering the final month of the year will head out to Rochester, N.Y. to face RIT in a two-game set on the road. With both games on FloHockey, the first game will be played on Friday, December 1 at 7:00 p.m. and game two will be played the following day with a 7:00 p.m. puck drop.
  • Recently, the Colonials came off a series loss to Sacred Heart. Both games, RMU was only behind a goal with the Pioneers tapping in an empty netter at the end of each day, winning 4-2 and 3-1.
  • Over the weekend, freshman Walter Zacher registered three assists, chipping in on all three of RMU's goals in the series.
  • Freshman George Krotiris also stepped up, scoring a goal and dishing out a helper over the weekend.
  • At center, Dallas Tulik from the left side ripped in a power play against the Pioneers.
  • Defenseman Cade Townend joined the rush, scoring off Krotiris's assist for his third goal of the season. Townend leads all defenseman at RMU in goals and points (3-3—6).
  • Earning his first point in an RMU sweater this season, defenseman Mitch Andres dished out an assist against Sacred Heart. In his career he owns one goal and seven assists. Andres is three games away from reaching 100 in his career.

The All-Time Series (RIT) – The two programs are set to play their 40th and 41st contest against one another. During the past 39 meetings, the Colonials own a 15-18-6 overall record against the Tigers. The beginning of the series happened back in 2005. Hosting the Tigers, the very first matchup ended in a 5-5 tie. The following day, Derek Schooley and his team won, 4-2. From 2014 to 2015, RMU had their longest win streak of four games against RIT. Most recently, in the 2020-21 season, both sides swept one another, as RMU took the first two games and RIT won the next two. Overall, the Colonials have cashed in 123 times, averaging 3.15 goals per game in the all-time series.
 
Scouting the Tigers – This past season, RIT finished with a 25-13-1 overall record and were 18-7-1 in conference games. Playing in the Atlantic Hockey Tournament, the Tigers swept Mercyhurst in the opening round. Making it to the semifinal, RIT went to overtime in both of the first two games of the best-of-three series against Holy Cross. After each team split the first two games, Holy Cross won, 5-1 to advance to the finals.
 
Currently, in the 2023-24 campaign, RIT is 8-4-0 overall and 6-2-0 in Atlantic Hockey contests, sitting in second place. The Tigers are coming off a non-conference set of games against a ranked opponent in #10 New Hampshire. RIT battled well, winning the first game 5-4 and then taking New Hampshire to OT in the second game, but fell 3-4.
 
Offensively, forwards Cody Laskosky and Carter Wilkie both lead the team in points with the exact same stat line (5-6—11). Putting in the most goals (6) has been graduate defenseman Gianfranco Cassaro. Four of his goals have been game-winners and three have come off the power play. Aiden Hansen-Bukata and Tanner Andrew each possess a team-high seven assists. 16 total players on the roster have a positive +/- with five players holding a +5. Senior defenseman Dimitri Mikrogiannakis holds the most blocks on the squad (24). Starting 11 games in goal, Tommy Scarfone this year has registered 326 saves, owning a 2.43 G.A.A. and .924 save percentage. Scarfone picked up one shutout in his 11 starts along with eight wins.
 
VELTRI ON THE VERGE OF 3,000
Heading into the weekend, graduate goaltender Chad Veltri sits with 2,967 career saves. During his four-year career at Niagara, Veltri made 2,557 stops. After pushing away 33 more shots, Veltri will become the 10th goalie in Atlantic Hockey history to reach the milestone. All-time, the Pittsburgh native owns 36 career wins and seven shutouts. Returning to his hometown, the netminder owns a .919 save percentage this season in net for RMU.
