MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Cornell scored six of the game's final seven points in its 90-85 win over RMU Friday afternoon at the UPMC Events Center.
The Colonials (4-9) were led by
Josh Corbin's 22 points and
Stephaun Walkers' 20 points and nine rebounds.
Justice Williams scored 15.
The Big Red (9-2) were led by Chris Manon who scored 20 points and Isiah Gray who added 17.
The game started off fast, with nine lead changes and two ties in the first eight minutes. A 9-0 run capped by Walker's offensive rebound and put-back midway through the 1
st half gave RMU a 36-26 advantage. The Colonials' lead would get a high as 12-points twice. The first after Corbin's 3-pointer at 3:15 made the score 46-34 and 40 seconds later when Corbin's foul shots put RMU ahead 48-36. The Big Red scored the final five points of the half as RMU took a 48-43 lead into halftime.
Early in the 2
nd half, Cornell got three straight field goals from Gray to take a 52-20 lead. By the 15:16 mark, the Big Red's lead grew to nine points at 61-52. RMU would chip away at the lead and would regain the advantage after Walker's and-1 at 7:56 put the Colonials ahead 73-72.
Cornell would score the next six points to go up 78-73 before RMU retook the lead at 83-82 on Corbin's layup at 2:49. The score was tied at 84-84 at the 1:28 mark, but the Big Red would score the next four points to go up 89-85 with 27 seconds remaining. On the next possession, Walker made the front end of the 1-and-1, but Chris Manon got the rebound and converted both free throws to close out the scoring.
RMU resumes Horizon League play December 29 at Milwaukee and December 31 at Green Bay. The next home game is January 4 against IUPUI.
