Colonials Improve in Conference Play as They Defeat IUPUI, 60-49

Moon Township, Pa. – The RMU women's basketball team returned home on Friday night and upended IUPUI, 60-49. With a win, RMU improves to 6-6 overall and 2-1 in the Horizon League while the Jaguars dropped to 2-10 overall and 0-3 in conference play.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED

RMU's offense came out firing to start the game led by Simone Morris who scored the teams first eight points as she anchored an 11-4 run to begin the contest. RMU shot their best in the first frame as it was just under 50 percent while converting on three shots beyond the arc.

The Colonials sustained the lead for the entirety of the game and it was partly due to a 9-0 scoring run midway through the third quarter, when the score was 33-29 in favor of RMU. The run lasted three minutes as it was Danielle Vuletich who got it started with her lone three pointer of the night followed by two-point plays courtesy of Rebecca Dwomoh, Louella Allana, and Micah O'Dell.

TURNOVERS TO POINTS
RMU won the turnover battle 29-19 in the contest but it's what the Colonials did with those turnovers that made the difference. RMU tallied 26 points off of IUPUI's turnovers while the Jaguars only managed nine points off of Colonial giveaways. The Colonials secured the second-most steals in a game this season with nine as Alex Mastral was commanding the defensive zone with a team-high five steals in the game.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Morris registered her team-high ninth game in double digits scoring as she finished with a season-high 18 points on seven field goals made. Freshman Micah O'Dell had her best game as a Colonial to date as she tallied a career-high 12 points on four made baskets against the Jaguars. Vuletich notched a team-high six boards along with nine points while Dwomoh added nine points off the bench for RMU.

UP NEXT
The Colonials will be back at the UPMC Events Center Sunday afternoon as they'll host Wright State in Horizon League action on New Years Eve. Tipoff is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN+.
