Colonials Fall in Overtime Thriller to Wright State, 80-77

Moon Township, Pa. – The RMU women's basketball team fell in an overtime thriller to Wright State, 80-77. With the loss, RMU dropped to 6-7 overall and 2-2 in the Horizon League while the Raiders improved to 9-6 overall and 3-1 in conference play.


MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
The RMU offense was trading baskets with the Raiders in the second quarter until the Colonials went on an 11-2 run that helped spark one of their largest leads of the game. RMU shot 61 percent from the field in the second frame which was their best out of any quarter. On the 11-2 run there were five different Colonials who scored points as the team was spreading the ball out at will against the Wright State defense.


After a Simone Morris three-pointer with 1:36 left in overtime which made the game 77-72 in favor of the Colonials the momentum began to change. A Louella Allana turnover and two missed free throws from Naomi Barnwell gave the Raiders the chance to spark a comeback. Wright State capitalized with an 8-0 run to end the game along with four made shots from the charity stripe.

CONTROLLING THE PAINT
The Colonials had the rebounding advantage all game long as RMU corralled 43 boards with 10 of those being on the offensive end. Danielle Vuletich had a strong game in the paint as she had 13 total rebounds with four offensive boards to keep possession for the Colonials. Barnwell had eight boards for RMU as the Colonials tried to counter the perimeter attack of the Raiders.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Three Colonials hit double-digits in scoring as Morris led the way with 18 points to go along with three rebounds and three assists. Barnwell had 15 points in the game as she also chipped in two assists with her eight boards. Vuletich notched a double-double with her 11 points along with her 13 rebounds and six assists. Allana played the most minutes out of any Colonial (40) as she had nine points with six rebounds and three assists.

The Colonials will hit the road this Thursday as they'll travel to face Purdue Fort Wayne. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN+.
