Moon Township, Pa. – The RMU women's track & field team opened action in the 2023 Horizon League Indoor Track & Field Championships Saturday in Fort Wayne, Ind., at the Lutheran Health Fieldhouse. The Colonials are tied for sixth with 11 points.
BETTER & BETTER
Fifth-year
Tara Gologram entered Saturday's first day of the #HLTF Indoor Championships as the No. 5 seed in the long jump but will return to Moon Township, Pa., having extended her own school record in the event in earning silver. On her third attempt, Gologram recorded a leap of 5.98 meters (19'7.50"), which trailed only Modupe Awosanya of IUPUI, who won the indoor crown at 6.04 meters (19'9.75"). The school record in the long jump had stood for 14 years until Gologram set a new standard in the event at the Doug Raymond National Qualifier (2/12/22) at Kent State last season thanks to a jump of 5.78 meters (18'11.75"). In the last 12 months, Gologram has produced each of the top four distances in program history in the long jump after her performance Saturday.
THE GO-GO'S
Gologram also qualified for the finals in the 60-meter dash Saturday, posting a time of 7.69 seconds and becoming the second member of the Colonials to set a school record in the event in the last three weeks. Gologram edged out sophomore
Maddie Raymond Saturday, who finished ninth at 7.72 seconds. Both of those times would establish a new school record, which Raymond set two weeks ago at SPIRE Institute with a time 7.76.
PETER PARKER
Junior
Gracie Parker also moved into the finals Sunday by qualifying in the preliminaries with a time of 8.78 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles, which placed sixth. In addition to marking a new personal standard it also cracks the top 10 at RMU in program history, with Parker ranking second. Parker also provided a time of 7.79 seconds in the prelims of the 60-meter dash, a time that would've tied the school record at the beginning of February. The RMU trio of Gologram, Raymond and Parker now rank one, two and three, respectively, in school history in the event.
PENTATHLON
In her final #HLTF Indoor Championships, senior
Lauren Chappell finished seventh in the pentathlon to score for RMU Saturday. She finished with 2,972 points, with her best event the high jump, where she posted a leap of 1.50 meters (4'11") to finish fifth. Chappell also recorded a time of 9.51 seconds in the 60-meter and 2:45.58 in the 800-meter while recording distances of 4.95 meters (16'3") in the long jump and 9.37 meters (30'7.50") in the shot put.
