Opening Draw
  • The Robert Morris women's lacrosse team begins Mid-American Conference (MAC) play when they travel to Youngstown State on Saturday, April 1, at Farmers National Bank Field.
  • The Colonials dropped a 17-10 decision to one of the top powerhouse offences in the country in UC Davis last Sunday (11/26) at Joe Walton Stadium.
  • Six different Colonials netted a score, led by Gia Anthony with three points, all coming from a hat trick. It's the fourth time in her career she has recorded a hat trick.
  • Jenna Irwin posted three points on the afternoon, netting two scores and tallied an assist while grabbing five ground balls and causing two turnovers. Colleen Tifft scored a pair of goals while winning a team-high four draw controls and snatching two ground balls.
  • Jordan Anderson, Lilli Hadden, and Chelsea Coleman all found the back of the net once, while Anderson collected an assist as well. Julia Koterwas and Mackenzie Bell each grabbed a pair of ground balls while Coleman caused three turnovers.
  • RMU used a pair of goalkeepers between the pipes against the Aggies in graduate student Jamie Keller and sophomore Sydney Riker. Keller started the contest and collected four saves on 35 total shots, with 26 coming on goal.
  • Riker played just under 20 minutes for the Colonials and carded a season-high five saves on 13 total shots faced. The sophomore also posted a .455 saves percentage on the afternoon.
  • RMU will welcome Kent State to the Joe on Wednesday, April 5, for their first conference home game of the season.

The All-Time Series (Youngstown State) – It'll be the sixth all-time meeting between the Penguins and Colonials as well as the third meeting in Youngstown, Ohio. RMU has taken control of the series since joining the MAC in 2021, holding a 4-1 mark after securing a 22-14 victory last season to advance to the MAC Championship. Colleen Tifft paced the Colonials with four goals while collecting three ground balls. Gia Anthony and Chelsea Coleman each recorded a hat trick, posting three goals apiece on a combined seven shots on goal. Jordan Anderson and Julia Koterwas both posted two scores and two assists while Anderson posted eight draw controls and three ground balls. Mackenzie Bell, Jerica Obee, and Kelsey Nelson all boasted two scores as Nelson collecting eight draws in the victory. The Colonials are averaging over 19 goals a game in the series while holding the Penguins to just 11 per contest.

Scouting The Penguins – Youngstown State comes into Saturday on a two-game losing streak, dropping a 15-3 decision at Canisius before falling at Pitt 13-9 this past Tuesday (3/28). The Penguins hold a 2-7 overall record, capturing wins against Butler and Gardner-Webb. Against the Panthers, Natalie Calandra-Ryan led the Penguins with four goals to deliver her sixth hat trick of the season and 99th career score. Calandra-Ryan also tallied a game-high six draw controls and made an assist. Abby Yesko found the back of the net twice for the Guins and added an assist. Ali Korin, Jade Shearer, and Tristen Chang each scored a goal apiece. Korin added two assists while Chang and Erin Clark each made one. Shearer, a freshman, scored her first career goal in the contest.

Youngstown State is one of the top offensive teams in the conference, averaging 11.22 goals per contest. The Penguins are led by Natalie Calandra-Ryan, who has been on a tear in the first nine games of the season. She leads the conference with 44 total points and 31 goals while sitting 16th in the country averaging 3.44 goals per contest this season. She averages 6.0 shots on goal which sits sixth in the NCAA as well as sitting 12th in shots per game with 8.0. Calandra-Ryan also ranks 15th in the NCAA in draw controls, winning totaling 61. She sits second in the conference and leads the team with 13 assists. Erin Clark ranks second on the team with 25 points, collecting 16 goals and nine assists this season. Ali Korin and Sydney Bumstead rank third with 12 scores each while Ally Garrett has tallied 10 goals and two assists this year.

MACtion Control – Since joining the MAC in 2021, the Colonials have found great success against conference foes. Under the direction of head coach Katrina Silva, RMU holds an 18-2 overall conference record entering Saturday's contest. In their first season in the conference, the Colonials posted a perfect 10-0 mark during their historic run on capturing their first ever MAC Championship and a berth into the NCAA Tournament. In 2022, RMU held an 8-2 overall conference record while capturing its second straight regular-season title and making its second consecutive appearance in the MAC Championship.  The Colonials have produced two Defensive Players of the Year, two Goalkeepers of the Year, one Coach of the Year, and 15 all-conference recipients since joining.

Inside The Digits – A pair of Colonials pace the team with 16 points each, in sophomore Chelsea Coleman and senior Colleen Tifft. Coleman leads the team with 14 goals and has netted a score in seven straight contests. She's posted a .688 shots on goal percentage while collecting 20 draw controls and 10 grown balls. Tifft continues to produce on both sides of the field, netting 10 goals while dishing out six assists. She sits tied for sixth in the MAC in assists and has scored a goal in six of the first eight games. Junior Lilli Hadden has produced for RMU, totaling 12 points, with nine goals and three assists. Hadden has tallied a score in six of the last seven games, netting a hat trick against Queens. In four games this season, sophomore Jenna Irwin has tallied 11 points, with eight goals and three assists. She posted a five-point performance against Queens, netting four goals and an assist during the win.
