Moon Township, Pa. – The RMU softball team continued action in the T-Mobile Crimson Classic Saturday at Rhoads Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Ala., dropping a pair of contests. The Colonials opened with a 10-0 loss to No. 9 Alabama in five innings before falling to Mercer, 14-2, in six frames. RMU dipped to 5-8 (.385) overall on the 2023 season.
GAME 1 • L, 0-10 • at No. 9 Alabama (5)
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
The Crimson Tide scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning before sending 12 hitters to the plate and scoring eight runs in the fourth to grab a commanding 10-0 advantage. Alabama (14-3) hit a pair of home runs during the frame, including a solo home run from Kenleigh Cahalan two batters into the inning, while pinch hitter Bailey Downing connected for a three-run shot to cap the scoring. Cahalan, along with Lauren Esman, went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI for the Crimson Tide with a pair of RBI, while Emma Broadfoot scored twice without the aid of an official at bat, as she drew three free passes.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
The offensive outburst made a winner out of Alabama's Jaala Torrence, who improved to 4-2 from the circle. She faced just one batter above the minimum, striking out four while not allowing a hit. RMU's lone baserunner came in the top of the third, when junior Juila Ehrman drew a walk before advancing to second on a passed ball.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Katie Helm went yard three batters into the contest to give the Bears an early 1-0 advantage as Mercer scored seven runs in the first three innings of the contest. The big hit in the third came as Rebeca Laudino hit a two-run single. The Colonials got a pair back in the bottom of the third, as junior
Charlotte Grover, who finished 2-for-3, ripped a two-run single to right that scored sophomore
Alaina Koutsogiani and junior
Faith Miller.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Mercer (6-12) matched its five-run third inning by plating five more in the top of the six. Helm was in the middle of the rally again for the Bears, as her sacrifice fly drove home Alyssa Woods with the final run of the contest. Miller scored a run for RMU in the nightcap against the Bears without the aid of an official at bat, as she drew two walks.
