Clash With Runnin' Bulldogs Set For Wednesday

Opening Draw
  • The Colonials travel to Boiling Springs, North Carolina for spring break as they take on Gardner-Webb on Wednesday, March 8, for a non-conference match at Spangler Stadium.
  • A strong second half by UMBC dealt the Robert Morris women's lacrosse team a 15-7 loss last Saturday (3/4) at Joe Walton Stadium.
  • Five different Colonials netted a goal against the Retrievers, led by senior Jerica Obee and sophomore Chelsea Coleman. They both recorded two goals on the afternoon while Coleman collected an assist.
  • Senior Colleen Tifft carded her score and assist in the first quarter, while senior Julia Koterwas and junior Lilli Hadden registered goals in the loss.
  • Graduate student keeper Jamie Keller tallied a career-high 16 saves against the Retrievers on Saturday. UMBC fired shots at Keller all afternoon as she faced 44 total shots with 31 coming on goal.
  • Keller collected seven saves in the second quarter alone as the Retrievers fired 13 shots at her. She recorded 11 of her 16 saves in the second half as she faced 26 shots in that span.
  • Three RMU players carded their firsts against Bucknell on Saturday. Graduate student Bailey Christianson tallied her first assist of the season in the third quarter at the 9:17 mark.
  • Sophomore midfielder Maggie Boyle found the back of the net on a man-up situation in the third quarter for her first goal of 2023. Junior Midfielder Gia Anthony gave a pass to Hadden in the fourth frame to register her first assists for the Colonials this season.

The All-Time Series (Gardner-Webb) – Come Wednesday afternoon, it'll be the third all-time meeting between the Colonials and Runnin' Bulldogs and the first meeting in North Carolina. RMU holds a 2-0 record in the series, capturing a 20-8 win in the first meeting (3/13/19) before securing a 12-9 victory two seasons ago (2/28/21). During the meeting in 2021, RMU extended its home winning streak to 12 straight games while erasing a three-goal deficit at the half. Jordan Anderson and Julia Koterwas each placed a shot on goal with both finding the back of the net for the Colonials. Robert Morris is averaging 16 goals against the Runnin' Bulldogs while holding them to 8.5 scores over the last two meetings.

Scouting The Runnin' Bulldogs – Gardner-Webb comes into Wednesday's match on a five game losing streak, dropping their first five games of the season. The Runnin' Bulldogs have opened the season with a tough non-conference schedule, leading off with Cincinnati before traveling to #11 Duke and Clemson University. Gardner-Webb is coming off a 19-6 loss to Davidson last Saturday (3/4). Brittany Sherrod paced the team on the offensive end as she recorded three points with two of those being goals. She led the team with ground balls and draw controls with four apiece on the day. Emma Duchscherer, Bria Foley, Alera Cornett, and Lauren Connor each tallied a goal in the loss. Danielle Burke started in goal for Gardner-Webb and collected nine saves in her 60 minutes. She faced 34 shots with 28 of those being directed on goal.

Bria Foley leads the team in points and goals, recording nine points and seven scores on the season. She has tallied four of her seven goals during the last two contests, netting three against Queens and one against Davidson. Brittany Sherrod sits second on the team with five goals on only eight shots on goal. Emma Duchscherer is ranked third with three scores, while Jade Preston leads the Runnin' Bulldogs with three assists this season. Danielle Burke has started in four of the five games in goal this season, collecting 31 saves on 137 shots faced. As a team, Gardner-Webb is averaging over 17 shots a game while averaging 5.6 goals per contest.

The Numbers Don't Lie – Sophomore midfielder Chelsea Coleman is enjoying a hot start to the beginning of the season, pacing the Colonials with 10 points. She has netted nine goals through four games, including three straight games being multi-goal games. Coleman ranks seventh in the MAC with nine goals and tied for eighth with her 10 points. Senior midfielder Colleen Tifft sits second on the team with eight points, leading the team with four assists while tallying four goals. Tifft has carded an assist in all four games for RMU and sits tied for fifth in the conference. Senior attack Jerica Obee sits second on the squad with five goals this season, tallying a score in each of the first four games for the Colonials.

Draw It Up – Senior attack Jordan Anderson has been steady in the draw circle for RMU this year. Anderson currently leads the team and sits second in the league with 22 draw controls won, while averaging 5.50 per contest. She carded 11 wins at Cincinnati before earning six wins against Bucknell a week ago. Coleman sits behind Anderson with 12 draw controls won, just short of matching her 15 draws from a season ago. She collected four at Ohio State and Cincinnati before tallying three against Bucknell in their home opener. As a team, RMU has totaled 50 draw controls through the first four games, averaging 12.4 per contest.
