Moon Township, Pa. – Senior
James Christoforatos of the RMU men's lacrosse team was named to the 2022-23 Academic All-America® At-Large Third Team Wednesday, as selected by College Sports Communicators (CSC).
Christoforatos, a native of Pickering, Ontario, is the first lacrosse student-athlete in athletic department history to be named a CSC Academic All-American. He is also the fifth RMU student-athlete to garner CSC Academic All-America® At-Large plaudits, joining Zac Lynch (2014, 2016) from men's hockey and Jaycee Gebhard (2020), Emilie Harley (2021) and Lexi Templeman (2021) of women's hockey.
Earning a spot on the 2023 ASUN All-Academic Team, Christoforatos was also twice named to the ASUN Academic Honor Roll (2022, 2023). He graduated in spring of 2022 with a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree from RMU in marketing with a 3.86 cumulative grade point average (GPA) and is also pursuing a Master of Science (MS) degree in data analytics while compiling a 3.91 GPA.
During the 2023 season, Christoforatos appeared in 14 games for the Colonials, earning three starts. Having began his career on defense before moving to long-stick midfielder, Christoforatos produced eight points in his final season at RMU thanks to four goals and four assists. He led all RMU student-athletes from the defense and long-stick middie positions in scoring and also compiled 29 ground balls as well as eight caused turnovers.
During his five years with the program, Christoforatos helped RMU notch an overall record of 38-30 (.559), including a 12-8 (.600) mark in conference play. The Colonials appeared in the NCAA Tournament twice during Christoforatos' tenure, including 2019 and 2022.
The at-large honor for Christoforatos continues the success RMU has had in achieving the highest academic honor in collegiate athletics. Since 2004, when former track & field student-athlete Christian Lemke (2003-04) became RMU's first honoree by being named to the 2004 CoSIDA Academic All-America® Second Team, a total of 16 student-athletes across eight programs have garnered Academic All-American distinction on 23 occasions.
