RMU Earns Big South Presidential Honor Roll Accolades

Total of 47 Colonials honored for work in classroom during 2022-23 academic year

Moon Township, Pa. – The Big South Conference announced its Presidential Honor Roll Monday for student-athletes that excelled in the classroom during the 2022-23 academic year. A league-record 68.08 percent of eligible student-athletes earned Presidential Honor Roll status.

To be named to the Big South Presidential Honor Roll, student-athletes must maintain a grade point average of 3.00 (on a 4.00 scale) or better for the recently completed academic year. This past season, 2,344 out of 3,443 eligible student-athletes achieved the benchmark.

RMU is an associate member of the Big South in football, with a total of 47 Colonials being named to the Big South Presidential Honor Roll. Of the 47 student-athletes for RMU, three received Commissioner's Award distinction during the 2022-23 season for owning a perfect 4.00 GPA during the 2022-23 academic year. Kicker Michael Benson, tight end Jake Kupchella and punter George Souders III each earned the honor.

In addition to the Commissioner's Award, student-athletes are honored by the Big South as Gold Award scholars for posting a GPA between 3.75 and 3.99 as well as Silver Award accolades for recording a GPA between 3.50 and 3.74.

Of the 47 RMU student-athletes to be named to the Big South Presidential Honor Roll in 2022-23, 22 (46.8%) earned Silver, Gold or Commissioner's Award distinction. Earning Gold Award scholars with a GPA of 3.90 or higher during the 2022-23 academic year were William Barber (3.90), Hayden Baron (3.965), Luke Beltavski (3.94), Trevor Renfro (3.96) and Noah Steverson (3.93).

Led by head coach Bernard Clark, Jr., who enters his sixth year leading RMU in 2023, the Colonials welcome back 16 starters, including eight on defense. RMU opens its 2023 campaign Saturday, Sept. 2, at Air Force in a 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff before returning home to host in-state rival Saint Francis for its 2023 home opener. Kickoff at Joe Walton Stadium is set for 6:00 p.m.
