MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. –
Markeese Hastings' 3-pointer as time expired gave RMU a 91-88 overtime victory against Purdue Fort Wayne Friday night at the UPMC Events Center.
1st HALF
After a pair of ties and eight lead changes, an 18-7 Mastodons run gave them a 25-15 edge at 8:49. RMU responded with a 13-2 run to go ahead 28-27 with 3:04 remaining. They would maintain, taking a 34-32 lead into halftime.
2nd HALF
RMU extended its lead to nine points after Hastings layup made the score 45-36 at 16:37. They would hold the lead until Corey Hadnot's layup put the Mastodons up 49-48, capping a 13-3 run. The half would see one tie and four lead changes. After Jalen Jackson's foul shots put Purdue Fort Wayne up 78-75 with 15 seconds remaining,
Josh Corbin hit the game-tying 3-pointer with 4.7 seconds to go forcing overtime.
OVERTIME
Quinton Morton-Robertson put the Mastodons up 88-86 with 1:24 to go. Corbin tied the game with a pair of free throws on RMU's next trip down the floor. After a pair of empty possession on both sides, Morton-Robertson grabbed a rebound off
Stephaun Walker's attempt but stepped out of bounds with 2.0 seconds to go.
Jackson Last inbounded the ball, threw a baseball pass to Hastings who hit the shot for the game-winner.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Corbin finished with 28 points, including a career-high eight 3-pointers. He tied his career-high with six assists. Last scored 17 points and had five assists – both career-highs.
Justice Williams added 16 points and Hastings 15. Walkedr led RMU with 10 rebounds.
Five Mastodons scored in double-figures with Morton-Robertson leading the way with 24 points.
RMU dominated on the boards, 43-28 and assisted on 21 of its 31 field goals.
