GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Colonials road woes continued as Green Bay picked up the victory, 70-42 on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, RMU falls to 6-11 overall and 2-6 in the Horizon League while Green Bay improves to 14-3 overall and a perfect 7-0 in conference play.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
The Colonials looked like they were going to have a strong offensive game as they converted on three of their first four field goal attempts and opened the game with a 7-4 lead.
Simone Morris opened the game with the first points on a free throw jumper followed by a three-pointer from
Natalie Johnson and a nice turnaround basket under the rim by
Danielle Vuletich to get the Colonials offense going. Green Bay then immediately went on a 10-0 run to take the 14-7 lead with two minutes left in the first quarter.
RMU saw themselves down by just nine points entering the third quarter with the score 28-19 in favor of the Phoenix but the momentum quickly switched to the home side. Green Bay started the second half on a 9-0 run and ended up turning that into an 18-4 run that lasted all the way until the 2:27 mark in the third quarter.
QUOTABLES
"We came out with a great gameplan on both ends of the court, that had us right in the game for the first half against an undefeated team", Coach Buscaglia said. Buscaglia added, " Our defense was working hard, and we kept battling while missing some good looks on the offensive end. What we need to get better at is battling for 40 minutes on the defensive end if the ball isn't going in for us on the offensive side." Buscaglia closed his statement with, "We must be accountable to bounce back from tough moments that we would like to have back in the second half. With some injuries we have been dealing with the last two weeks everyone needs to be ready to step up and understand how much we can grow from playing some tough competition."
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Madison O'Dell and Morris each led the Colonials with 10 points while Morris added a team-high nine rebounds. Vuletich chipped in six points with three rebounds and two assists for the Colonials.
