MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU women's basketball team dropped a conference matchup against Detroit Mercy, 56-39. With the loss, RMU falls to 6-14 overall and 2-9 in the Horizon League while Detroit Mercy improves to 13-8 overall and 6-4 in conference play.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Even though the Colonials were hustling on both ends of the floors to start the game their shots wouldn't fall as Detroit Mercy came out the gate with a strong 15-2 run. RMU's lone field goals in the first quarter came off a fast break layup from
Danielle Vuletich and a
Tuana Coskun three-pointer to end the first frame.
Â
RMU was able to turn the Titans turnovers into points as the Colonials had 18 points off of Detroit Mercy's miscues compared to 12 for the visiting team. Additionally, the Colonials attacked the rim throughout the contest but they were unable to draw enough contact which could've made for more opportunities from the foul line for RMU as they had just nine trips to the charity stripe throughout the game.
QUOTABLES
"We played them hard even though we lost, the ball didn't go in the basket for us today we've had some tough times shooting the ball lately but to come back and defend how hard we did and never quit, you could see at the end of the game everyone running around and that'll help us when we get out of this shooting slump. We are going to keep developing, down the stretch here we are going to stay after it to get the win", Coach Buscaglia's first comments after the game. "There's going to be times where players are upset when someone isn't dropping back or doing the right thing but we go over that as a coaching staff and tell these guys in the preseason get ready for the adversity because it can come at different times but we will bounce back," – Buscaglia on how the team isn't getting too high or too low.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Vuletich notched her fourth double-double of the season as she recorded 12 points and 12 rebounds as eight of those boards were on the offensive end.
Rebecca Dwomoh added nine points, three rebounds, and two steals for the Colonials.
Tuana Coskun had eight points off the bench for RMU as she was 2-4 from three-point range in the contest.
