SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – AIC's early and late goals give the Yellow Jackets a 5-2 win to split the series. RMU is now 7-18-3 overall and 4-12-2 in AHA action. The Yellow Jackets moved up to 14-11-1 overall and 10-7-1 against conference opponents.
1ST PERIOD
- Across the last five minutes of the opening period, AIC scored two goals to take a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.
- The Yellow Jackets threw 20 shots on net through the first 20 minutes. Netminder Chad Veltri posted 18 saves.
2ND PERIOD
- During the middle frame, neither side scored.
- Shots were about even as the Colonials posted eight on goal and the home side reached nine.
3RD PERIOD
- 18 seconds into the final period, Jackson Reineke crashed the net to bash in a rebound of Rylee St. Onge's shot, to bring the Colonials within one.
- About three minutes later, the Yellow Jackets gathered a two-goal lead again, scoring on the power-play.
- Later on, in the period, AIC struck again, making it a 4-1 game.
- Battling till the end, RMU received a man-up opportunity with under two minutes left in the game. Off the faceoff win, Reineke passed backwards to defenseman Michael Craig at the point. Throwing a slap shot on net, forward Paul Maust tipped in the puck to score his second goal of the season.
- Upon putting an extra skater out on the ice, the Yellow Jackets capped off their win with an empty-net goal, earning a 5-2 victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Offensively,
Logan Ganie peppered a team-high four shots. In the faceoff circle, centers
Cameron Garvey (12-20) and
Dallas Tulik (11-18) successfully won the majority of their draws. Garvey also led the team in blocks with two. Netminder
Chad Veltri ended the contest with 34 saves. Captain
Rylee St. Onge dished out an assist in each game of the series, including the primary assist on the game-winner in yesterday's match.
MULTIPOINT EFFORT
Chipping in on both goals today, freshman
Jackson Reineke produced his fourth multipoint game this season. Over the last two series, the forward out of Faribault, Minn. is averaging a point-per-game, registering two goals and two assists. Reineke is currently second on the team in goals and owns six assists (7-6—13).
UP NEXT
On deck, the Colonials will play a series against Mercyhurst with the first game on the road and the second at home. The series is scheduled for February 2-3; both games at 7:00 PM.
